Williamsport Pride Throughout the World

Williamsport Area School District educates students and arms them with the tools they need to go out into the world, grow into adulthood, establish careers, and contribute to their communities. Our WAHS alumni are scattered throughout the world, both near and far, and have put their mark on the world in which they live in both in big and small ways and continue to give back to their home community.

Distinguished Alumni


Since 2012, the alumni committee has presented the Distinguished Alumni Award to outstanding WAHS alumni. The award honors our notable alumni who have been outstanding in their professional accomplishments and have made significant achievements benefiting their local and/or global communities. Our Distinguished Alumni are recognized annually by their peers during a special ceremony during Homecoming week. The recipients are inducted into the Distinguished Alumni Wall of Fame at WAHS. 
Outstanding Recent Alumni Award

Given to an alumnus who has graduated 10 years ago or less. It recognizes outstanding service and accomplishments of an exceptional alumnus. Area of service may include professional, personal and civic.

Distinguished Alumni Service Award

Given to an alumnus who has provided outstanding service to his/her profession and/or community.

Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award

Given to an alumnus who has modeled and employed a focus on achievement within his/her profession.

Distinguished Alumni Humanitarian Award

Given to an alumnus who has provided extraordinary service for the benefit of others.

WAHS senior Zackery Gates and junior Adam Roush were honored at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently for placing sixth and third, respectively, in the American Welding Society’s Welding Competition.

Anna Radspinner has been named Penn State School of Music’s 2018-2019 Outstanding Alumni Music Educator. According to the music school, the award recognizes “outstanding Penn State alumni for distinguished service to K-12 music programs.”

Registration is open to enroll in summer courses at WAHS. The high school will offer two forms of summer courses: credit acceleration and credit recovery to all high school students. Registration deadline is June 6. Classes begin June 11.

Coleen Genovese began as WASD's new elementary special education supervisor this week. Genovese comes to the district from the Benton Area School District, where she most recently served as its K-12 director of curriculum and instruction and director of grant writing and federal programs.

Mr. Brandon Coleman was recently named Supervisor of Pupil Transportation and School Safety at WASD. Coleman, who begins April 1, comes to WASD from Keystone Central School District, where he’s held the position of the district’s supervisor of police and transportation since 2009.

Please be advised that extensive roadwork will begin in the Newberry section of Williamsport beginning Monday, April 1, and is expected to last through the end of August. The construction work will have significant impact on travel.

Author and youth advocate Rodney Walker returned to WAHS to work with about 70 students who have been through adverse experiences. He led students through a workshop called "Wounds You Cannot See," offering them strategies on how to work toward healing and positive growth.

The Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation (WASDEF) has announced it has awarded $12,304 through its 2018-2019 Challenge Grant Program to benefit two district programs.

WAHS hosted its second Career Fair on March 14 during which 55 business, organizations, agencies, colleges and universities, and military branches were present. Students were able to interact with those from many industries and explore the post-secondary opportunities available to them.

WASD's kindergarten and new student enrollment week for the 2019-2020 school year is scheduled for March 18 through March 22 at the District Service Center. Registrations will be handled alphabetically by last name from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

All eight WASD Odyssey of the Mind teams that competed at the Regional Tournament in Berwick on Saturday are headed to the State Finals. Contending teams from WASD represented Cochran Primary School, Curtin Intermediate School, WAMS and WAHS.

Eight eighth-grade students at Williamsport Area Middle School recently were recognized for earning Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. “The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12,” according to the contest’s website.

WAHS sophomore Cecilia Fink recently donated $10,500 to support two local causes: the Livestrong program at the YMCA and 6-year-old Declan Bower, who is battling leukemia. This is Fink’s fifth year supporting local programs and individuals in need through her charity, Be You Boldly.

The WASD maintenance department has 18 items up for public bid through the online auction service Municibid.com. From alignment machines to pavement cutters, items are up for public purchase through a bidding process for up to the next two weeks.

Thanks to the generosity of River Valley Regional YMCA and its Executive Director Sonja Davy, some students in need will receive gifts this holiday season. Through its Angel Tree, the YMCA asked its members to purchase coats, backpacks, pants, socks, scarves and hats for students of all ages in the district.

In partnership with UPMC Susquehanna, WASD continues to train all district employees this year in the national Stop the Bleed initiative. Today, 16 Stop the Bleed kits, each containing eight individual kits, were delivered to the district for installation at each of its school buildings for public accessibility.

 The Class of 1964 will have its 55th class reunion on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, at Imbibe and Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at The Genetti Hotel.  Blocks of rooms available at The Genetti, Holiday Inn and Residence Inn. Contact WHS64class@aol.com for more information.

The Class of 1979 will celebrate its 40th class reunion beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019, on the Hiawatha, with special guest/performer Aaron Kelley.  Space is limited to 100 people.  The evening will continue with an informal gathering at The Valley Inn at 8:30.  At 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, a dinner and dance will be held at the Genetti Hotel.  On Sunday, July 28, an informal gathering will be held at Way Cool Beans in the Pajama Factory at 10 a.m.  For more information, contact Chuck Fessler at wahs1979reunion@aol.com or on Facebook.
