25 Winners Selected in WASD Holiday Essay Contest

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (DECEMBER 6, 2023) — The Williamsport Area School District recently concluded its annual Holiday Essay Contest, during which students in kindergarten through fifth grade were asked to answer, in 200 words or less, “What does the holiday season mean to you and why?”

The top 25 winners were selected and will receive free ride on the trolley for an exclusive Holiday Tour of Lights on Wednesday, Dec. 13, sponsored by River Valley Transit Authority. They will also receive a special gift, provided by the district’s federal programs department.

This year’s winners are:

  • Fuller Broaddus, fifth grade, Curtin Intermediate School
  • Arielle Copson, second grade, Cochran Primary School
  • Ayana Fatherly, first grade, Jackson Primary School
  • Felix Fisher, second grade, Cochran Primary School
  • Jabriel Grier, first grade, Jackson Primary School
  • Parker Henne, second grade, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School
  • Claire Hoyt, first grade, Jackson Primary School
  • Jayelle King, second grade, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School
  • Allison Klingborg, second grade, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School
  • Kaitlyn Kriger, fifth grade, Curtin Intermediate School
  • Harrison Lehman, fourth grade, Curtin Intermediate School
  • Mason Leidhecker, fourth grade, Lycoming Valley Intermediate School
  • Lewis Lorson, kindergarten, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School
  • Ida Lowe, third grade, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School
  • Kennedy Mason, third grade, Jackson Primary School
  • Elijah Pershall, fourth grade, Curtin Intermediate School
  • Chloe Redka, fifth grade, Lycoming Valley Intermediate School
  • Oliver Repella, first grade, Cochran Primary School
  • Killian Rogers, second grade, Cochran Primary School
  • Arianna Rogers, fourth grade, Curtin Intermediate School
  • Stella Ross, third grade, Jackson Primary School
  • Heidi Smith, fifth grade, Lycoming Valley Intermediate School
  • Marlaynna Wilson, fifth grade, Lycoming Valley Intermediate School

In addition to the trolley ride, two top essay winners were selected and received a $25 gift card to Kaos Fun Zone. These two students are Ilion Carrion, a third-grade student at Cochran Primary School, and Jada-Lynn Emick, a fourth-grade student at Lycoming Valley Intermediate School.

Following the trolley ride, this year’s winners also will get to enjoy an exclusive story time session with cookies and hot chocolate, provided and served by students from Williamsport Area High School’s culinary arts program, in the rotunda at the James V. Brown Library.
