WASD named James DeSantis as its new Elementary Special Education Supervisor, effective date to be determined. DeSantis comes to the district from the Harris County School District in Hamilton, Ga., where he served as its special education director.

WAHS junior Lydia Smith has claimed a world championship title. Smith competed in the 2019 Pontevedra ITU Aquathlon World Championships, winning the competition over other female athletes in the 16-19 age group in Pontevedra, Spain, on May 2.

Registration is open to enroll in summer courses at WAHS. The high school will offer two forms of summer courses: credit acceleration and credit recovery to all high school students. Registration deadline is June 6. Classes begin June 11.

WASD's kindergarten and new student enrollment week for the 2019-2020 school year is scheduled for March 18 through March 22 at the District Service Center. Registrations will be handled alphabetically by last name from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Eight eighth-grade students at Williamsport Area Middle School recently were recognized for earning Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. “The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12,” according to the contest’s website.

WAHS sophomore Cecilia Fink recently donated $10,500 to support two local causes: the Livestrong program at the YMCA and 6-year-old Declan Bower, who is battling leukemia. This is Fink’s fifth year supporting local programs and individuals in need through her charity, Be You Boldly.
