Thanks to the generosity of River Valley Regional YMCA and its Executive Director Sonja Davy, some students in need will receive gifts this holiday season. Through its Angel Tree, the YMCA asked its members to purchase coats, backpacks, pants, socks, scarves and hats for students of all ages in the district.

In partnership with UPMC Susquehanna, WASD continues to train all district employees this year in the national Stop the Bleed initiative. Today, 16 Stop the Bleed kits, each containing eight individual kits, were delivered to the district for installation at each of its school buildings for public accessibility.

The WASD Education Foundation recently concluded its annual Holiday Essay Contest, during which students in kindergarten through sixth grade were asked to answer, in 200 words or less: “What does the holiday season mean to you and why?”

The WASD Education Foundation announced it recently awarded $24,009 in grants to support six programs and initiatives across the district. Those awarded were among the foundation’s first this school year that have the potential to impact thousands of student now and into the future.

Curtin Intermediate School takes students from the kindergarten-3rd primary grade years to the next step in their academic and social journeys. Increased challenges in core curriculum courses and introduction to enhanced music education, such as playing a musical instrument, will help your child learn about his or her aptitudes and abilities and help shape your child's future interests.

Reading skills are advancing, curiosity grows, and children begin seeking out more knowledge on their own. They are building on the foundation of primary school in a new, exciting environment and are excited to share what they have learned, created, and enjoy being engaged.
