WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (JANUARY 30, 2025) — A new layer of security is in place at the Williamsport Area School District with an advanced AI-based gun detection system that's now live to help protect students and staff from potential threats.

ZeroEyes, the only AI-driven gun detection video analytics platform with the full U.S. Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act Designation, provides real-time threat detection and response, integrating seamlessly with WASD’s existing security infrastructure.

“The addition of ZeroEyes’ advanced technology provides us with an additional level of preparedness and security and will allow us to respond swiftly and effectively to potential threats,” said Superintendent Dr. Timothy S. Bowers. “This addition reinforces our commitment to continue investing our resources to create an even safer and more secure learning environment for our students and staff.”

ZeroEyes’ AI gun detection and intelligent situational awareness software layers onto WASD’s existing digital security cameras. If a gun is identified, images are instantly shared with the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC), the industry’s only U.S.-based, fully in-house operation center, which is staffed 24/7/365 by military and law enforcement veterans. If these experts determine that the threat is valid, they dispatch alerts and actionable intelligence — including visual description, gun type and last known location — to first responders and local staff as quickly as 3 to 5 seconds from detection.

ZeroEyes is the latest addition to an expanded, comprehensive, and multilayered range of security measures the district has implemented to defend against school intruders and threats. Other solutions include school resource officers (SRO); on-campus police officers; and Verkada security equipment, which combines video cameras, access control systems and environmental sensors with cloud-based machine vision and artificial intelligence.

“It’s always inspiring to see communities and school districts in our backyard so dedicated to the mission of saving lives,” said Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes. “The Williamsport Area School District’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its students and staff is truly meritorious.”

“The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” Bowers said, “and we are constantly looking for ways to enhance our security measures. The implementation of ZeroEyes is another step forward in our ongoing efforts to provide the utmost protection to ensure our schools remain a safe place to learn.”
