21 WAHS Students Earn Top 3 Placements in Regional SkillsUSA Competition

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (FEBRUARY 6, 2023) —Twenty-nine Williamsport Area High School students competed in the regional SkillsUSA competition at Pennsylvania College of Technology last week, and, of them, 21 earned top finishes.

Twelve earned first-place finishes in the following categories: Chandra Apker in T-Shirt Design; Evan Beiter in Early Childhood Education; Samantha Carpenter, Makaylah Johnson, Leo Miller and Laila Robertson in Health Knowledge Bowl; Domonic Flory in Culinary Arts; Kristen Goodman in Electrical Construction Wiring; James Inwright in Advertising Design; Noah McKenzie in Information Technology Service; Elizabeth Ryder in Basic Health Care; and Carter Weaver in Medical Math.

Five earned second-placed finishes: Brian Jacobs in Auto Service Technology; Gavin Reed in Precision Machining; and Jackson Holmes, Landen Miller and Alex Pricher in Quiz Bowl.

Four earned third-place wins in the following categories: Jordan Downey and Jalen Parker-Keyes in Mechatronics; Aslynn Guthrie, Commercial Baking; and Mayson Kiessling in Welding.

According to the organization’s website, “SkillsUSA is a national student organization that develops employability, participatory and leadership skills to complement the occupational skills developed by students in technical education classrooms or work-based learning sites.  SkillsUSA is an integral part of approved technical education occupation programs.”  

WAHS has 15 workforce development courses made available to students through the its Career and Technical Education program
