Music Education
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato
We are dedicated to our music programs at Williamsport Area School District. From kindergarten through the primary years, we use music to help teach fundamentals, with an emphasis on “fun.” As children grow into intermediate schools and middle school, they are introduced to instruments and offered instrumental instruction as well as vocal instruction and opportunities to perform in band and chorus.
At Williamsport, we provide a variety of programs for our vocal and instrumental talent offering a wide range of music selections from classical to contemporary. The district boasts ten vocal groups, three bands and three orchestras. Specialized groups like our Strolling Strings, Marching Millionaires, orchestras, and vocal ensembles are often invited to perform at various community events, and have even performed at the White House.

We are pleased to have a dedicated staff of 22 throughout the district who work with the children on their techniques, exercises, and education about many types of music. Furthermore, our district, its administration, and various others have continued to provide support in many forms to preserve and continue our strong music programs in the district. It is this dedication that has lead to Williamsport Area School District’s designation as a Best Community for Music Education for 20 consecutive years.
