WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (MARCH 16, 2026) — The Williamsport Area High School music department is preparing for its annual musical production.
“Hadestown: Teen Edition” is set to hit the stage at 7 p.m. Friday, March 27, with a matinee performance scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28.
“Hadestown: Teen Edition” is a bold and imaginative musical by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell that retells the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through a contemporary, folk-inspired style blending elements of American folk music, New Orleans jazz and blues.
The musical follows the intertwining love stories of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and the powerful rulers Hades and Persephone. Through its music and storytelling, “Hadestown” explores themes of love, hope, perseverance and the power of song in the face of hardship.
Originally developed by Mitchell and later brought to the stage with director Rachel Chavkin, “Hadestown” premiered on Broadway in 2019 and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
Among the cast and crew of about 50 students, the production stars Colton Taylor as Hermes; Xavier Johnston as Orpheus; Jaslin Shand as Eurydice; Colyn Jandrisavitz as Hades; Marley Naugle as Persephone; and Cadence Decker, Sabra Fisher and Elizabeth Radspinner as The Fates.
Directors Sam Robinson and Megan Louder, the high school’s choral instructors, said the cast and crew are excited to share their work with the community and have worked tirelessly to bring the musical to life.
“Our talented student performers bring the characters to life with strong vocals, expressive acting and dynamic ensemble work, creating an emotionally moving experience,” Robinson said. “This production promises a memorable evening of live theatre that highlights the dedication and artistry of WAHS students.”
Advance tickets will be on sale at the WAHS main office during school hours (cash or check only). Tickets also will be available at the door. Prices are $12 for adults and $7 for students.
