WILLIAMSPORT, P.a. (November 4th, 2026) – On Wednesday, November 4, just under twenty sixth-grade students at Lycoming Valley Intermediate School gathered in the library for an informal conversation with Dr. Poole, Williamsport Area School District’s (WASD) Assistant Superintendent.
The Career Café program, which took a break, is officially back in full swing! Held during the lunch hour with different groups of students, these sessions provide an opportunity to connect students directly with professionals. Students can ask questions about guest speaker’s career journeys and learn about professions they may not have otherwise considered.
Dr. Poole kicked off the first session, sharing not only about his current leadership role at WASD, but also the journey that brought him there. What began as a love for his childhood sport eventually led to a lifelong career in education.
Dr. Poole encouraged students to set goals, explore different opportunities, and remember that leadership does not have to be loud. To him, leadership means showing up, supporting others, and finding ways to uplift those around you. Success is not about commanding a room, but about making sure the people in it feel comfortable, valued, and supported.
Students also had the opportunity to ask their burning questions, and they were especially fascinated to learn about Dr. Poole’s roots in England and his journey to the United States.
By bringing these unique professional experiences and personal stories directly to students, Career Café encourages them to start thinking about their own futures at an early age. With so many career paths to explore, these sessions offer more than a glimpse into different professions. They also highlight the human side of building a career, reminding students that the journey is just as important as the destination.
Lycoming Valley Intermediate School looks forward to welcoming more professionals to its weekly Career Café conversations and continuing this renewed tradition for years to come.
