WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (DECEMBER 4, 2025) — Fourth-grade students from Mrs. Brenda Watkins' classroom at Curtin Intermediate School are taking part in a yearlong community outreach initiative for the Wounded Warrior Project. As part of the project, students have raised $400 for the effort through the PTO's recent “Popping for a Purpose” popcorn sale held on Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
To better understand the impact of their efforts, students read stories from wounded service members and discussed how donations support their recovery. They then created posters and flyers to promote the building-wide popcorn sale.
Students recently welcomed a special visitor, Wounded Warrior Project recipient retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Raul Carbajal, spoke to students and introduced them to his service dog, Remus. The visit helped students make a meaningful connection to the organization they are supporting.
Fundraising efforts will continue through May. This spring, students will shift their outreach project to “Propagating Plants for a Purpose,” painting mugs and selling plant-filled containers to support the cause.
