WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (JUNE 10, 2025) — Williamsport Area School District has once again been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.
This is the 23rd year that WASD has received the designation — making the district the longest-running recipient in the state — which is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
WASD is among only 935 school districts selected nation-wide.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, WASD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs.
“Being part of the WASD music department means joining a family where making music is the best part of my day,” said Hailey Copson, a 2025 graduate who will study music education at Bloomsburg University this fall. “It has given me lifelong friends, unforgettable memories and a place to call home.”
“This recognition affirms the district’s long-standing commitment to providing high-quality music education opportunities to all students,” said Superintendent Dr. Timothy S. Bowers. “To be named among the Best Communities for Music Education for the 23rd year is a testament to the dedication of our teachers, the passion of our students and the support of our community.”
“Our music program is a vital part of our academic offerings and student experience,” said Kristin Takach, director of secondary curriculum. "This award highlights the collaborative work of our educators and administrators in making music education accessible and meaningful. We are proud to see the impact of this work reflected in the lives of our students every day.”
