8 WAHS Students Place at State SkillsUSA Competition

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (APRIL 15, 2025) — Eight Williamsport Area High School (WAHS) students who earned first-place finishes at the regional SkillsUSA competition in February advanced to the state event, held recently in Hershey, Pa.

The students competed in a variety of categories, earning the following placements:

  • Trevor Estes, second place, Related Technical Math
  • Hailey Copson, fourth place, Baking and Pastry Arts
  • Mia McNaul and Ashlyn Robinson, sixth place, EMT
  • Lily Waltz, sixth place, Pin Design
  • Jewelana Jasper, ninth place, Job Skills Demo A
  • Blake Meixel, ninth place, Precision Machining
  • Ahmir Ransom, ninth place, Telecommunications Cabling

In total, 43 WAHS students participated in the regional competition hosted by Pennsylvania College of Technology this winter. Of those, 26 earned top-three placements in their respective categories.

According to the organization’s website, “SkillsUSA is a national student organization that develops employability, participatory and leadership skills to complement the occupational skills developed by students in technical education classrooms or work-based learning sites.  SkillsUSA is an integral part of approved technical education occupation programs.”  

WAHS has 15 workforce development courses made available to students through its Career and Technical Education program, providing students with hands-on training and real-world experience.
