David Keene is presented with his diploma.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (FEBRUARY 24, 2021) — It's taken nearly four decades, but Williamsport resident David Keene has finally received his high school diploma.

Keene, a member of the Class of 1985, left for Parris Island, S.C., as United States Marine Corps recruit just seven days before he was scheduled to graduate from Williamsport Area High School.

The alum successfully completed his high school career, though, despite his attempts over the years, never received or was able to obtain an official (and original) copy of his high school diploma other than transcripts — until now.

Shown here, flanked by Director of Student Services Dr. Richard Poole, left, and Superintendent Dr. Timothy S. Bowers, Keene proudly displays his diploma — dated June 1985 — after being presented with it on Feb. 24 at the District Service Center.
