WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (MARCH 19, 2021) — Despite the obstacles winter sports faced in a season laced with pandemic restrictions and guidelines, the Millionaires held the line and persevered with exceptional outcomes. 

Below are some highlights from this year's winter sports season: 

Basketball

• Boys Basketball:  Finished with a 12-5 record, advancing to the District II/IV Class 6A championship game at Mohegan Sun Arena, though lost 48-39 against Scranton. 
  
  
• Girls Basketball: Finished with a 7-12 record, losing in overtime 58-53 to eventual district champion, Wilkes-Barre Area, in the semi-final game.

Swimming & Diving

Swimming and Diving teams finished their regular season in mid-February, with girls finishing 9-2 and boys finishing 7-4.  For the post-season competition:

• In diving, Jack Beattie was District IV/VI champion, advancing to the state meet where he earned a fifth-place state medal, tying the highest ever finish for a WAHS diver at the state meet. Beattie also broke the school and pool records here at WAHS this season. 

• Also in diving, junior Adelia Engel was District IV/VI champion.  She finished in seventh place at the state meet. 

• In swimming, we have one relay team, in the 4 X 100 yard freestyle event, which won the district championship and advances to the state meet, which will be held March 20 at Cumberland Valley High School.  Girls on the relay team are:  Amy Jarvis, Isabelle Griswold, Sydney Kelley and Mallory Pardoe.  This relay team broke the school record during the district meet.

• Mallory Pardoe also broke the school record in the 100-yard backstroke, which has stood for 26 years.

• Ellie Fisher broke her own school record in the 100-yard breaststroke, which she set last year.

Wrestling

The wrestling team completed their individual portion of the schedule, with the state competition held March 13 in Hershey.  Now, the team portion will begin this March 19, as we wrestle against Clearfield for the District Championship. The team is currently 10-2 in dual meets this season.

Individuals had a very successful season:

• Sophomore Cael Nasdeo advanced to the state championship match, losing 3-0 in the final match to finish second place in the state in Class AAA at 106 pounds.  He was the first state finalist for WAHS since 1995.

• Junior Riley Bower also medaled at states this year, finishing in sixth place in the 145-pound weight class this year.
  
  
• Juniors Roman Morrone and Braden Bower both finished in fifth place at the Super Regional tournament in their respective weight classes, one spot away from earning a state medal.

WAHS had nine wrestlers earn place finishes at districts to advance to the Regional meet this year.  The Millionaires also won the individual team and district championship based on these finishes.

Indoor Track & Field

Finally, senior Allen "Tré" Taylor represented WAHS at the Adidas National Indoor Track and Field Meet, running a personal best time of 7.9 seconds to earn a fifth-place finish at this national event.  He hadn’t had the chance to compete in this hurdle event since his sophomore year because of an injury last year and the COVID-19 shutdown.  He also ranked No. 1 in PA and No. 10 in the nation for the 110M High Hurdles.
