Medical Conditions

Food and Other Severe Allergies — Extreme hypersensitivity to insect stings and food allergies are potentially life-threatening conditions. Information from the parent and instructions from the physician are necessary so that we may effectively care for your child at school. Please fill out the Protocol for Acute Allergic Reactions to Stinging Insects/Food.

Asthma — Contact your school nurse and fill out the School Asthma Record.  If your child requires nebulizer treatments or an inhaler, please complete the Prescription Order Form for Asthma Inhaler Order Form. Students in grades 6-12 may carry their inhalers only if they have a written physician order stating so. Written physician orders must be given to the school nurse.

Diabetes and Other Chronic Conditions — Children with diabetes and other chronic health conditions often require frequent visits to the nurse to manage their conditions. If your child has diabetes or any other health condition that should be monitored, please call your building's school nurse to arrange a conference regarding the care your child will require. We will be happy to assist your child in having a positive school experience while learning to manage his or her health.

Influenza and Febrile Illnesses — Any child with a temperature greater than 100.4ºF (fever) orally should stay home from school for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone without the use of fever-reducing medication.
