Lunch for Hybrid and Remote Phases

Q: What will lunch look like?  
A: K-8, Lunch will be delivered to the classrooms and students will eat within their classroom. 

Students in the middle school will have lunch in their homeroom classroom.  They will be able to select a lunch on their Chromebook during homeroom class and the lunch will be delivered to the classroom. 

High School will utilize 3 lunch periods with three serving locations in the school.  Student schedules will include a specific lunch period and cafeteria for their daily lunch period.  This will allow for social distancing to occur during a student’s daily lunch period.   

Students will be able to keep a packed lunch in their locker and get it at lunch.  There will not be any additional snacks or drinks sold at lunch time.   
Q: Will my child receive a lunch on remote learning days while in Hybrid?  
A: Families will have the option to order meals for remote days by completing an online pre-order process on SchoolCafe app.   Students will be charged for meals based on eligibility Free/Reduced/Paid. 

A Schedule Students will receive Tuesday's remote learning day meals at the end of the school day on Monday; and will receive Thursday and Friday's remote learning day meals at the end of the day on Wednesday. 

B Schedule Students will receive Wednesday's remote learning day meals at the end of the school day on Tuesday; and will receive Friday and Monday's remote learning day meals at the end of the day on Thursday. 

Meals will be similar to what was provided during our meal program last spring.  Breakfast will consist of cereal, crackers, juice, and 1% white milk.   Lunch will consist of an entree, vegetable, fruit, and 1% chocolate milk. 
Q: Will my child still receive a school lunch when they are in remote option?  
A: Yes. 

Families will have the option to order meal kits for the number of instruction days in the week by completing an online pre-order process on the SchoolCafe app.  Students will be charged for meals based on eligibility Free/Reduced/Paid. 

Each meal kit will provide a breakfast and lunch for each instructional day based on the meal selections and the meal benefits the student qualifies for: 
 - Free = No charge for the meal kit 
 - Reduced-Priced = Breakfast $0.30 / Lunch $0.40  
 - Primary & Intermediate = Breakfast $1.00 / Lunch $2.55  
 - Middle & High = Breakfast $1.00 / Lunch $2.70  

The meal kits will include items that can be reheated at home. Reheating instructions and a menu will be provided in meal kits.   

Families who have not applied for Free and Reduced-Priced benefits should submit a Meal Application.  Information on application access would be provided:  “Here at WASD, you can apply for free-or-reduced price school meals online by going to www.schoolcafe.com.  If you apply for free-or-reduced price school meals through SchoolCafe, you do not need to submit a paper application.  If you require help creating an account or completing the online application, please contact the district's Food Service Department at (570) 327-5500 x40104. Please do not contact the school where your child attends.” 
  
During the pre-order process, parents will have the option to select a school pick-up location. If a family has students who attend different schools, they will have the option to pick-up from a single location. The new online ordering also allows for parents to pick-up meal kits without their students having to be present.  The parent will need to have the student identification number for all their students.
