WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (JUNE 9, 2023) — Last evening, 298 graduates proudly celebrated their achievements and received their diplomas during Williamsport Area High School’s 152nd commencement ceremony.

Those in attendance had the privilege of hearing commencement speeches made by members of the senior class — Michael Harry and Elise Berthold. The senior Class President, Brynn Broaddus, also made remarks.  Each delivered a message set to a theme based on a quote by Milton Berle, “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”

“As you move forward in your lives, remember that success is not something that comes to us by chance,” Principal Dr. Justin Ross said in his address to the class. “It is the result of hard work, dedication and a willingness to take risks. Don't wait for opportunities to come knocking at your door — create them yourself. Be bold, be creative and be persistent in chasing your dreams. Building a door may seem like a daunting task, but remember that every great achievement began with a single step.”

Avery Sauers and Benjamin Manetta were named salutatorian and valedictorian, respectively.

Among the scholarships, awards and prizes granted to students, $36,453 was granted to select graduates held at the Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation. In addition, this year’s high school retirees were acknowledged and honored for their service to the district and its students over the years.
