2 WASD OM Teams Advance to 2019 World Finals

2019 World-Bound OM Teams

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (APRIL 8, 2019) — Two Williamsport Area School District Odyssey of the Mind teams will head to the 2019 World Finals after securing first- and second-place wins at the state round Saturday at Pocono Mountain East Campus.

Eight contending teams from WASD represented Cochran Primary School, Curtin Intermediate School, Williamsport Area Middle School and Williamsport Area High School.

Those advancing to the World Finals are:

  • Williamsport Area Middle School: First Place, “Leonardo’s Workshop,” coached by Beth Lewis, Liz Manetta and assisted by Matthew Gutberlet. Team members: Olivia CiabattariMia ClarkSydney KelleyLisa LewisBen Manetta and Lizzie Ryder.

  • Cochran Primary School: Second Place, “Opposites Distract,” coached by Melanie Vail and April Frank. Team members: Emily FrankCooper GutberletBrayden HarpsterChaedyn LockardJulisa MartinRoslyn Perry, and Alex Vail.

While not advancing, the following is a listing of how the six other WASD teams ranked in their respective problems:

The 2019 World Finals is scheduled for May 22-25 at Michigan State University. 

This will be the fifth consecutive year WASD teams have competed at the World Finals. Last year, two teams from Curtin and WAMS were successful in the program’s regional, state and world competitions. Those teams competed at Iowa State University, both ranking in the top 25.
