New Elementary Special Education Supervisor Begins at WASD

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (APRIL 3, 2019) — Coleen Genovese began as Williamsport Area School District’s new elementary special education supervisor this week.

Genovese comes to the district from the Benton Area School District, where she most recently served as its K-12 director of curriculum and instruction and director of grant writing and federal programs. She replaces Dr. Elizabeth Barnhart, who resigned for other employment.

Genovese brings more than a decade of professional and administrative experience to the position, having started her career in education in 2006 as a special education teacher at Bloomsburg Area High School. She also worked as the K-12 director of special education, interim superintendent, and as the assistant middle and high school principal at Benton Area School District before moving into her latest administrative post.

A Wilkes-Barre native, Genovese earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Bloomsburg University, where she also earned her Master of Science and Master of Education in Special Education and Curriculum and Instruction, respectively. She holds K-12 administrative certifications in curriculum and instruction and special education. In addition to her principal certification, she also holds a superintendent letter of eligibility from Marywood University.
