WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (FEBRUARY 12, 2019) — Curtin and Lycoming Valley Intermediate schools will host their annual YAM-JAM events in March.

Together, the events will celebrate National Youth Art and Music in Our Schools month, but honor it separately through different themes.

Curtin’s event will run 5-7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8, in the gymnasium, set to the theme of How the Arts Bring Out Our Superpowers!

The event will feature musical performances from the school’s ukulele group, The Ukes of Hazard, the chamber orchestra, jazz and brass bands and an all-encompassing hero sing-a-long.  It also will include a gallery of artwork created by students in grades four through six, as well as a number of hands-on stations for attendees to explore the arts, literacy and technology.

Families and friends may channel their inner hero (superhero, rock hero, artist hero) and get their face painted. There also will be an opportunity to “fly” or strike some other hero pose at a photo booth.

Visitors should enter Curtin on the east side of the school through Door 9 and are encouraged to wear their favorite hero attire.

Lycoming Valley’s YAM-JAM event will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, in the school’s gymnasium and cafeteria.

Through a This is Me! theme, the event will showcase student work in both art and music, student work from around WASD, and community. Interactive activities will be provided from local art and music vendors as well as LVIS faculty and staff.

Performances from LVIS and students will continue throughout the evening.

Both events will have basket raffles, provided by and benefitting their PTOs.
