WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (NOVEMBER 2, 2018) — Andrew G. Curtin Intermediate School announced today it collected a record 5,001 socks during its monthlong #socktober campaign last month.

Last month's collection represents more than half of the total that had been accumulated in the last five years, and now brings the total to roughly 15,000 pairs.

According to Curtin's orchestra teacher, Anna Radspinner, who leads up the sock drive each year, the socks will make their way to area homeless shelters and nonprofit organizations throughout Lycoming County in early December.

The announcement of this year's total was made during a school-wide event today, when Radspinner broke down the results by grade level with fourth grade coming in first with 1,418; sixth grade second with 1,186; and fifth grade with 929.  The greater school community donated 1,468 pairs.

The #socktober movement began six years ago by Kid President and Soul Pancake to help the homeless around the U.S.
