WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AUGUST 22, 2018) — A revised 2018-2019 School Year Calendar is now available.

The Williamsport Area School Board approved a revised district calendar last evening as a result of the district's delayed start to the new school year. The new calendar has in it five additional days, all built into the school year.

“We really wanted to stick to the year calendar that we had by keeping graduation, holidays — things like that — in place,” said Dr. Susan Bigger, assistant superintendent. “We really went looking for where we could trim or add days for students inside of that footprint.”

Days added back in for students are March 28, March 29, April 23 and May 6.  The fifth day, June 7, will require only teachers' attendance, as it will be considered an Act 80 day.

“As a district we are able to apply for Act 80 days, which are professional development days by teachers … and we are allowed to account for those as student days,” Bigger said.

The delayed start has pushed back the start of the school year and open houses by one week. Students will now return to school on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
