WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (JUNE 1, 2018) — The Williamsport Area Middle School Builders Club donated $700 to four community agencies this morning.

The group contributed $100 to Make-a-Wish Foundation, $150 to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, $150 to the James V. Brown Library’s Adopt-a-Summer-Reader Program, and $300 to the Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger.

The compilation of gifts was made as a result of the Builders Club year-long “Fone Friday” fundraising campaign among their peers, which generates funds through the donation of $1 for the benefit of using their cell phones during lunch.

According to club advisor and seventh-grade math teacher Mike Lundy, the group worked together to decide to which organizations they wanted to donate.

Today’s check presentations took place during the group’s last meeting of the school year. The club also recognized one of its own, rising eighth-grader and incoming club treasurer Marcella Fisher, for accumulating 78.5 volunteer hours through the year.

“It’s an awesome day to celebrate with amazing kids and also our local organizations that will benefit from our hard work as a club,” Lundy said.According to the program’s website, the Builders Club, a division of Kiwanis International, “is an international student-led organization providing members with opportunities to perform service, build character and develop leadership.”
