WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (JUNE 6, 2018) — Four Williamsport Area High School seniors represented their classmates on a series of billboards each week since May 14 on the digital display along Market Street just off the Carl E. Stotz Little League Memorial Bridge.

The billboards, which featured students from the athletic, academic, arts, and the Career and Technical Education departments, showcased where the students are headed after graduation and what teacher influenced the decision to pursue his or her future plans.

Kyle Andrews, LJ Boone, Juliet Jacques and Mary McMahon each were on the digital display for a one-week flight leading up to the week of graduation. Each of the student's billboards displayed the following messages.

  • Andrews: "Because of Mr. Heller, I plan to study architecture at Penn State University this fall."
  • Boone: "Because of Mr. Sarge, I plan to study electrical engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology."
  • Jacques: "Because of Mr. Radspinner, I plan to study viola and physics at Northwestern University."
  • McMahon: "Because of Mr. Steppe, I plan to study medicine and public health at the University of Pittsburgh."

Today, the group received and presented replicas of the billboards, as shown in the photo above, to the teachers mentioned in their statements (Radspinner and Heller were unavailable for the photo).

The billboard campaign was led by the Williamsport Area School District public relations department and the WASD Education Foundation in cooperation with the City of Williamsport and Lamar Advertising.
