7.2   Consider approving the Williamsport Area School District Reading Recovery Training Site to provide Reading Recovery Continuing Contact Services during 2008-09 to:

 

4 Reading Recovery Teachers – Shikellamy School District

3 Reading Recovery Teachers – Montgomery Area School District

5 Reading Recovery Teachers – Bald Eagle Area School District*

2 Reading Recovery Teachers – Sullivan County School District

1 Reading Recovery Teacher – Galeton Area School District

 

Each district will pay WASD $650 per teacher (mileage will be reimbursed by each district directly to the WASD Teacher Leader). The cost will cover: (a) one site visit by the WASD Reading Recovery Teacher Leader to each of the teachers; and (b) participation by each of the Reading Recovery Teachers in six Continuing Contact sessions to be held at the WASD Reading Recovery Training Site during 2008-09.

 

* One Bald Eagle Area SD teacher must have the Reading Recovery status reactivated at a cost of $1,300 ($650 for the 2008-09 Reading Recovery Continuing Contact costs plus $650 for the additional training that will be required from the WASD Reading Recovery Teacher Leader).

Williamsport, as a temporary professional employee, effective with the 2008-2009 school term (scheduled date is August 21, 2008), to teach Health and Physical Education at the high school, at a salary rate of Step 1, bachelor's, $39,250 (replacing Jason Adams, resigned). Nelson, 2765 Blair St., Ext., Montoursville, as a part-time Administrative Support I (245 day, 5 hours per day) for the Mail Room at the District Service Center, with a base wage rate of $11.21 per hour, effective June 30, 2008 (replacing Charles Hughes, transferred; position revised to part-time).

 

L.   The following person(s) as Title I Elementary Summer School Teachers, assignment to be determined, for 3.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, plus one 30 minute building meeting each week, beginning July 7 through August 1, 2008 at the rate of $27.71 per hour plus appropriate benefits, plus up to two professional development days at $90 per day. Whittington, 639 Fifth Ave., Williamsport, from a general food service worker at the high school to a part-time (185 days, up to 5 hours per day) Instructional Support Aide for the Water Safety Program at the Williamsport Area High School, effective with the start of the 2008-2009 school year (tentative start date of August 25, 2008), with a base wage rate of $11.31 per hour or contract rate (replacing Bridget Cortes, resigned; position revised to part-time).

8.5   CONTRACTED SERVICES CONT’D:

 

B.   Consider approving a contract with Delta Dental, One Delta Drive, Mechanicsburg, to provide dental care benefits to eligible employees of the Williamsport Area School District under a Cost-Plus rating method for the 2008-2009 school year calculated as follows: cost of claims incurred + $4.05/month for each primary enrollee. Settlements under this arrangement will be calculated monthly with weekly wire transfers.

 

C.   Consider approving the following rates to provide life insurance and AD&D coverage for eligible employees with Harleysville Life, effective July 1, 2008:

 D.   Consider authorizing the Board President to sign an agreement with Employee Services, Inc., 55 Chamberlain St., Wellsville, New York 14895, reflecting a rate of $20.84 per employee for Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Services for the 2008-2009 school year.

9.1   RELEASED TIME/TRAINING PROGRAMS

 

Consider approving released time for staff members to participate in professional develop-ment activities in accordance with the Professional Development Plan of the Williamsport Area School District and consider approving training programs. 11.1   Consider approving a partnership between the James V. Brown Library and the WASD Title I schools for parent training opportunities. The James V. Brown Library will provide up to two parent workshops, at a maximum of $300 per workshop, not to exceed a total of $600 per Title I school for 2008-09. All funds are budgeted under Title I Parent funds for each Title I school.

Board Policy #902, “Public Participation in Board Meetings”:

 

A.   There will be two public comment sections: one during the first two hours of

the meeting at a time to be determined by the presiding officer; and the other at the end of the meeting. This gives the presiding officer some flexibility to fit the first public comment section into the agenda at a convenient time.

 

B.   Persons submitting a formal request to speak during the first public comments section should be present promptly at the beginning of the meeting in the event that they are invited to speak prior to commencement of the scheduled business that is outlined in the agenda. Persons who have submitted a written request will be given an opportunity to make a presentation about an issue that is on the agenda when the issue is scheduled for discussion or about an issue that is not on the agenda during the first two hours of the Board meeting, at a time to be determined by the presiding officer.

 

C.   Each public comment section will be limited to a maximum of 20 minutes. Each speaker will be limited to a maximum of five minutes.

 

D.   Those wishing to speak during the first public comments section must submit a formal request in writing to the business administrator no later that 9:00 a.m. on the day of the Board meeting. This gives people an opportunity to come to the District Service Center on Monday before the Board meeting to read the posted agenda.
