8.   PERSONNEL REPORT CONT’D:

 

8.1  RESIGNATIONS

 

Consider accepting the following resignation(s), effective on the dates and for the purposes indicated:

 

D.   Michele L. Lusk, full-time Food Service Satellite Manager at Hepburn-Lycoming Elementary School, for the purpose of retirement, effective at the completion of the 2007-2008 school year (tentative date of June 6, 2008).

 

  RESOLVED: that the Board of School Directors of the Williamsport Area School District acknowledges with profound regret the retirement of Michele L. Lusk from service in the Williamsport Area Schools and expresses its sincere appreciation for her 23 years of dedicated service to our school system as a Food Service Manager. It further expresses the hope that her years of retirement will be many and richly rewarding.

 

E.   Louise A. Campana, resigning from position as teacher for the Title I Elementary Summer School Program, for personal reasons, effective April 7, 2008 (Ms. Campana will continue as fourth grade teacher at Jackson).

 

8.2  LEAVES OF ABSENCE

 

  Consider approving the following leave(s) of absence:

 

 D.   Brenda D. Winter*, full-time special education teacher at the high school, unpaid leave on an intermittent basis (as needed), effective May 5, 2008 through June 9, 2008.

 

8.3*  ELECTION OF STAFF  

 

  Consider the election of the following staff, for the purpose and on the date indicated:  

 

 A.   The following person(s) as non-certificated substitute teacher(s) with receipt of an emergency permit, subject to assignment by the Superintendent of Schools, at the salary and/or rates as established by Board policy ($90 per day for first 45 days; $110 per day for days beyond the 45th day; up to a maximum of 180 days/year) and only for the actual number of hours assigned and worked during the 2007-2008 school year:

8.3*   ELECTION OF STAFF CONT’D:

 

 D.   The following substitute teacher(s), subject to assignment by the Superintendent of Schools, at the salary and/or daily rates as established by Board policy ($90 per day for first 45 days; $110 per day for days beyond the 45th day; up to a maximum of 180 days/year), and only for the actual number of hours assigned and worked:

 

    Jackie N. Carpenter     325 Beech St., S. Williamsport (effective 05/12/08)

   Kirsten T. Schuyler    52 Roderick Rd., Williamsport (effective 05/12/08)

 

 E.   Rebecca R. Laird, 767 Route 973 East, Cogan Station, as a substitute food service worker, at the salary rate of $7.15 per hour, for the actual number of hours worked, effective May 7, 2008.

 

 F.   Vincent Chiglinsky, Jr., 506 Louisa St., Williamsport, as a substitute school bus driver (non-bargaining unit personnel), with a base wage rate of $11.00 per hour, effective May 5, 2008.

 

G.   The following person(s) as Title I Elementary Summer School Teachers, assignment to be determined, for 3.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, plus one 30 minute building meeting each week, beginning July 7 through August 1, 2008 at the rate of $27.71 per hour plus appropriate benefits, plus up to two professional development days at $90 per day. All costs are budgeted under Title I:

8.4*  POSITION CHANGES

 

  Consider approving the following position change(s):

   

 D.   Crystal T. Maddy, 920 Park Ave., Williamsport, from a part-time Instructional Support Aide (Fast ForWord/Title I) at Jackson Elementary School, to a part-time Administrative Support I/CTE (prorated up to 185 days, up to 5 hours per day) at the high school, with a base wage rate of $11.21 per hour, effective May 5, 2008 (replacing Amie Palmer, transferred; position funded by College & Career Counseling Grant).

 

10.   STUDENT/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES CONT’D:

 

10.1*   Consider approving the following student trips cont’d:

 

T.   Seventy-five (75) first grade students from Stevens Elementary School,   accompanied by their teachers, aides, and parent volunteers, to travel to Faxon  Bowling Lanes and Memorial Park during May 2008.

 

    District transportation is requested. All costs will be paid by the Stevens PTA.

 

10.1*   Consider approving the following student trips cont’d:

 

U.   Sixteen (16) eighth grade students from Roosevelt Middle School, accompanied by their teacher, to travel to Jackson Elementary School on dates during May   2008 to assist students with the transition from elementary to middle school.

 

    The students will walk to and from Jackson. There will be no cost to the District.

 

 V.   Twenty-five (25) eighth grade students from Roosevelt Middle School,   accompanied by their teachers, to travel to the nanotechnology lab at Penn State  during May 2008 as part of their study of job opportunities.

 

    District transportation is requested. Coverage will be arranged by the principal.

 

W.   Twenty-five (25) eighth grade students from Roosevelt Middle School, accompanied by their teachers, to travel to the Lycoming County Landfill and the PP&L Power Plant (Montour Preserve) during May 2008 as part of their study of job opportunities.

 

    District transportation is requested. Coverage will be arranged by the principal.

 

 X.   Twenty-five (25) eighth grade students from Roosevelt Middle School,   accompanied by their teachers, to travel to the Williamsport Hospital during May  2008 as part of their study of job opportunities.

 

    District transportation is requested. Coverage will be arranged by the principal.

 

 Z.   Twenty-five (25) eighth grade students from Roosevelt Middle School,   accompanied by their teachers, to travel to the Post Office (Reach Road) and  Brodart during May 2008 as part of their study of job opportunities.

 

    District transportation is requested. Coverage will be arranged by the principal.

 

 AA.   Twenty-five (25) eighth grade students from Roosevelt Middle School,   accompanied by their teachers, to travel to KISS FM radio and Bowman Field  during May 2008 as part of their study of job opportunities.

 

    District transportation is requested. Coverage will be arranged by the principal.

 

 BB.   Twenty-five (25) eighth grade students from Roosevelt Middle School,   accompanied by their teachers, to travel to the Lycoming County Airport and  Lonza during May 2008 as part of their study of job opportunities.

 

    District transportation is requested. Coverage will be arranged by the principal.

 

CC.   Twenty-five (25) eighth grade students from Roosevelt Middle School, accompanied by their teachers, to travel to the Genetti Hotel during May 2008 as part of their study of job opportunities.
