CURRICULUM REPORT CONT’D:

 

7.5   Consider hiring one teacher to tutor after school Reading and one teacher to tutor after school Mathematics for high school seniors who are preparing to take the PSSA retest. Ten or more students must enroll in each section of the after-school tutoring program at the Williamsport Area High School. Teachers will be paid at the rate of $27.03 per hour plus appropriate benefits, up to four days per week, 1.5 hour per day for up to a total of 12 hours. Funding will be provided from the WAHS Project 720 grant award.  

 

7.6   Consider approving Curtin Middle School to submit for the Youth Literacy Grant offered by Dollar General Stores. The Dollar General Youth Literacy Grant provides funding to schools and local nonprofit organizations to help with the implementation or expansion of literacy programs for emerging readers.

8.2  LEAVES OF ABSENCE

 

  Consider approving the following leave(s) of absence:

 

 A.   Shanna M. Breen, general food service worker at Sheridan Elementary School,       for an unpaid leave, effective September 27, 2007, through October 23, 2007.

 

8.3*  ELECTION OF STAFF  

 

  Consider the election of the following staff, for the purpose and on the date indicated:  

 

 F.   The following substitute food service workers, at the salary rate of $7.15 per hour, for the actual number of hours worked, effective date as indicated:

 

   Barbara A. Helminiak    41 Grimesville Rd., Williamsport (effective 10/02/07)

 

 I.   The following substitute administrative support/aides, subject to assignment by the Superintendent of Schools, at the hourly rates as established by Board policy (Administrative Support - $7.50/hr., Instructional Aide - $7.15/hr.; up to a maximum of 180 days/year) and only for the actual number of hours assigned and worked:

 J.   April J. Gardner, 1305 Louisa St., Williamsport, as a substitute health room technician, subject to assignment by the Superintendent of Schools, at the hourly rate established by Board policy ($9.00/hr.; up to a maximum of 180 days/year) and only for the actual number of hours assigned and worked.

 

 

8.3*   ELECTION OF STAFF CONT’D:

 

 K.   Arnetta L. Twine, 959 Market St., Williamsport, as part-time (up to 185 days, prorated; up to 5 hours per day) instructional support aide at Stevens Elementary School, effective October 3, 2007, with a base wage rate of $11.31 per hour, FICA, Worker’s Compensation, Retirement (if eligible), and sick leave (per the Agreement between the Board and the Williamsport Area Education Support Professionals) are the only fringe benefits (replacing Robyn Weaver, resigned).

 

 L.   The following persons as teachers for the Educational Assistance Program/Tutoring   Program effective for the 2007-2008 school year (beginning October 2, 2007).   Teachers will be paid at the rate of $27.03 per hour plus appropriate benefits, up to   three (3) days per week, one (1) hour per day plus 15 minutes preparation  time per   hour of instruction (maximum of 3.75 hours per week; total length of program is 60   days). All funds budgeted under EAP (Educational Assistance Program):

8.4*   POSITION CHANGES - Consider approving the following position change(s):

 

 C.   Wayne L. Furman, 351 Daughertys Run Rd., Williamsport, from a custodian (1 st shift)     at the high school to a full-time Head Custodian (1st shift) at Jackson Elementary       School (250 day, 8 hours per day), with a base wage rate of $33,620, prorated

    ($16.81 per hour), effective October 9, 2007 (replacing Richard Weaver, retired).

 

 D.   Steven H. Roles, 2600 Riverside Dr., Williamsport, from a custodian at Roosevelt    Middle School to a full-time Custodian (1st shift) at the high school (250 day, 8 hours     per day), with a base wage rate of $31,720, prorated ($15.86 per hour), effective       October 8, 2007 (replacing Wayne Furman, transferred).

 

 E.   Constance H. Williams, 725 Sheridan St., Williamsport, from a part-time instructional support aide at Sheridan Elementary School to a part-time instructional support aide (up to 185 day, up to 5 hours per day) at the high school (CTE), with a base wage rate of $11.31 per hour, effective October 1, 2007 (replacing Dustin Kimble, resigned).

 

8.5  OTHER

 

 B.   Under the provisions of Pennsylvania Act 2002-234, please consider approving the extra-curricular employment agreement for the following individual(s):

 

   (1)   Francis J. Myers, 2424 Vista Rd., Williamsport, as a teacher for the       Educational Assistance Program/Tutoring Program and the Title I Extended     Day Tutoring Program at Stevens Elementary School effective for the 2007-     2008 school year (beginning October 2, 2007), at the rate of $27.03 per hour     plus appropriate benefits (up to three (3) days per week, up to one hour 15       15 minutes per day; total length of program is 60 days). All funds budgeted    under EAP (Educational Assistance Program) and/or Title I.

 

11.   BIDS/CONTRACTS CONT’D:

 

11.3   Consider authorizing the submission of a Pennsylvania Department of Community and

  Economic Development grant application in the amount of $15,000 to provide drainage improvements for the multipurpose field and play area adjacent to the J. Henry Cochran Elementary School.

 

11.4   Consider authorizing an agreement with Rodney Bower, Linden, PA to provide a sound

  system for the October 5, 2007, pep rally at a cost of $600 to be paid with student government

  funds.
