5.1*   Consider approving the following insurance policies for the period of 7/1/07 to 7/1/08.

 

A.   Interscholastic Athletic and Voluntary Student Accident Insurance with AG Administrators, Inc. at a cost of $17,750 (FY07 $15,000). The voluntary student accident insurance premium is also unchanged at $28 for school time and $124 for 24-hour coverage.

 

5.2*   Consider authorizing payment of invoices and services rendered by the list submitted and direct the officers of the Board of School Directors to execute the same:

7.   CURRICULUM REPORT

  Questions may be directed to Dr. Adams.

 

7.1   Consider approving a Theatre Club to be held after school from 3:30 to 5:00 on Monday’s and Wednesday’s for the 2007-2008 school year at Round Hills Elementary School. The club is open to all students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 from the Round Hills Elementary School. Volunteer advisors for the club are Mick Cioffi, Dena Mesaris, Maureen Richards, and Ed Richards. Transportation will be provided by parents. There is no cost to the district.

 

7.2   Consider approving the following middle school family and consumer science teachers for up to two days of summer curriculum work in July or August. Compensation is at the rate of $90 per day and is paid through College and Career Counseling grant.

7.3   Consider approving the Harcourt Social Studies program for Grades 1, 2, 3, and 5. This program replaces the Heath Social Studies program that was purchased approximately 15 years ago. (Note: Grade 4 is using a Pennsylvania Studies program that is from a separate company.) The cost of the program is funded through the elementary curriculum and site-based budgets.

 

7.4   Consider approval of up to 20 additional days of service as needed for Lisa Nible, School   Psychologist, during the 2007-08 school year. Mrs. Nible is to be paid her per diem rate for   days actually worked. This addition partially replaces days of School Psychologist  service removed from the Intermediate Unit contract.

8.1  RESIGNATIONS

 

Consider accepting the following resignation(s), effective on the dates and for the purposes indicated:

 

A.   David H. Fisher, part-time security at the high school, verbal resignation for personal reasons, effective June 10, 2007.

 

B.   Tina L. Jedrziewski, part-time instructional support aide at Round Hills Elementary School, for personal reasons, effective July 3, 2007.

 

8.2   LEAVES OF ABSENCE - None at this time

 

8.3*  ELECTION OF STAFF  

 

  Consider the election of the following staff, for the purpose and on the date indicated:  

 

 A.   Clay A. Dodson, 716 Main St., South Williamsport, as part-time security at the high school, third shift, weekend and holidays or as needed, up to 8 hours per day, with a base wage rate of $11.31 per hour, effective June 29, 2007 (replacing David Fisher, resigned).

 

 B.   The following substitute administrative support/aides, subject to assignment by the Superintendent of Schools, at the hourly rates as established by Board policy (Administrative Support - $7.50/hr., Instructional Aide - $7.15/hr.; up to a maximum of 180 days/year) and only for the actual number of hours assigned and worked:

8.4*  POSITION CHANGES

 

  Consider approving the following position change(s):

 

 A.   Elizabeth W. Stahlnecker, 884 Rose Valley Rd., Cogan Station, from a general food service worker (2 hours daily) at Curtin Middle School to a general food service worker (2 hours daily) at Hepburn-Lycoming Elementary School, with a base wage rate of $10.56 per hour, effective for the 2007-2008 school year (replacing Denise Deitrich, resigned).

 

 

 

 

 

8.5  OTHER

9.1   RELEASED TIME/TRAINING PROGRAMS

 

Consider approving released time for staff members to participate in professional develop-ment activities in accordance with the Professional Development Plan of the Williamsport Area School District and consider approving training programs. All expenditures proposed are within local, state and federal budget categories approved as noted. (See attachment)  

 

10.   STUDENT/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES - None

11.  BIDS/CONTRACTS

11.1   Consider authorizing the attached agreement with Larson Design to provide professional   service concerning underground oil tank replacement at the Williamsport Area High School   and the Roosevelt Middle School. Said services will include an initial site visit and research   of viable underground and aboveground replacement tanks. This service will be provided on  a time card basis at an estimated cost of $1,000.

Board Policy #902, “Public Participation in Board Meetings”:

 

A.   There will be two public comment sections: one during the first two hours of

the meeting at a time to be determined by the presiding officer; and the other at the end of the meeting. This gives the presiding officer some flexibility to fit the first public comment section into the agenda at a convenient time.

 

B.   Persons submitting a formal request to speak during the first public comments section should be present promptly at the beginning of the meeting in the event that they are invited to speak prior to commencement of the scheduled business that is outlined in the agenda. Persons who have submitted a written request will be given an opportunity to make a presentation about an issue that is on the agenda when the issue is scheduled for discussion or about an issue that is not on the agenda during the first two hours of the Board meeting, at a time to be determined by the presiding officer.

 

C.   Each public comment section will be limited to a maximum of 20 minutes. Each speaker will be limited to a maximum of five minutes.

 

D.   Those wishing to speak during the first public comments section must submit a formal request in writing to the business administrator no later that 9:00 a.m. on the day of the Board meeting. This gives people an opportunity to come to the District Service Center on Monday before the Board meeting to read the posted agenda.
