8.  PERSONNEL REPORT

 

8.1  RESIGNATIONS

 

Consider accepting the following resignation(s), effective on the dates and for the purposes indicated:

 

D.   Valorie L. Singleton, verbal resignation as Track and Field Middle School Assistant Coach at Curtin Middle School for personal reasons, effective for the 2006-2007 season.  

 

8.3*   ELECTION OF STAFF  

 

  Consider the election of the following staff, for the purpose and on the date indicated:  

   

 B.   The following spring sport coaches at the respective schools for the 2006-2007 school year at the salary rate in accordance with the 2002-2007 agreement by and between the Board of School Directors of the Williamsport Area School District and the Williamsport Education Association (pending completion of all appropriate paperwork*):

           (replacing Valerie Singleton, resigned)

 

 C.   Thomas J. Gravish, 184 Jacksonville Rd., Bellefonte 16823, as a professional employee, effective with the 2007-2008 school term (scheduled date is August 23, 2007), to teach Social Studies at the high school, at a salary rate of Step 7, master's, $51,600, pending receipt of all necessary paperwork (replacing James Burget, retired). Mr. Gravish will also be scheduled to participate in Induction Program activities before the start of the 2007-2008 school term.

 

 D.   Joseph G. Weisser, 521 Mulberry St., Montoursville, as a full-time (185 days, 7 hours per day) Instructional Support Aide for the Water Safety Program at the Williamsport Area High School, effective April 18, 2007, with a base wage rate of $16,239, prorated ($12.54 per hour), plus applicable benefits as provided under the collective bargaining agreement between WASD and WASP (replacing Laura Barnsley, resigned). Mr. Weisser can work provisionally for up to 90 days pending receipt of all necessary paperwork.

 

 

 

8.3*   ELECTION OF STAFF CONT’D:

 

 E.   The following person(s) as Middle Level Summer School Teachers for 3½ hours per     day, 5 days per week, plus one 30 minute building meeting each week beginning      July 9 through August 3, 2007, at the rate of $27.03  per hour plus appropriate       benefits. Teachers will also participate in up to two staff development days at       $90/day prior to the start of summer school. Employment is contingent upon       participation in appropriate professional development activities as well as student       enrollment. All costs are budgeted under Sheridan Project Grant:

10.   STUDENT/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES:

 

10.1   Consider approving the following student trips:

 

N.   Nine (9) students from the Williamsport Area High School, accompanied by their teacher, to travel to Penn College during April 2007 to visit the nano-technology department.

 

  Transportation will be provided in the school van. One substitute will be needed for the day at a cost not to exceed $110.00.

 

O.   Twenty (20) science students from the Williamsport Area High School, accompanied by their teacher, to travel to the Penn College Aviation Center during April 2007 to investigate science careers as related to aviation.

 

  District transportation is requested and will be paid by Penn College. One substitute will be required for the day at a cost not to exceed $110.00.

 

P.   Approximately 160 eighth grade students from Lycoming Valley Middle School, accompanied by three teachers, to travel to the Montour Preserve during May 2007 to participate in a variety of environmental activities. The students will be divided and will attend on two separate days.

 

  District transportation is requested and will be paid from the student activities fund. Three substitutes will be required for two days at a cost not to exceed $660. The cost of the substitutes will be paid by the Lycoming Valley PTO.

 

Q.   Approximately 151 eighth grade students from Curtin Middle School, accompanied by three teachers, a principal, and an aide, to travel to the Montour Preserve during April 2007 to participate in a variety of environmental activities. The students will be divided and will attend on two separate days.

 

  District transportation is requested. Three substitutes will be required for two days at a cost not to exceed $660. All costs will be paid by the Curtin PTO.

 

 

10.1   Consider approving the following student trips cont’d:

 

R.   Ten (10) members of Roosevelt Middle School’s Art Club, accompanied by their art teacher, to travel to Penn College during April 2007.

 

  District transportation is requested and will be paid by Penn College. One substitute will be required for the day at a cost not to exceed $110.00.

 

10.2   Consider approving the following request for facility use:

 

 A.   Antioch Baptist Church to use the gymnasium at Cochran Elementary School on

    Thursdays, beginning April 19 through May 24, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. until

    6:30 p.m. to have basketball practice and games. Antioch Baptist Church is       requesting relief of the occupancy fee estimated at $150.00. Certificate of Insurance    on file.
