AGENDA ADDENDUM

 

November 7, 2006

 

 

4.4  CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS:

 

 A.   Consider awarding a contract to Silvertip Inc., HVAC Contractor, to provide       additional construction services for the Lycoming Valley Middle School Project at     a cost of $65,000. These services are part of the existing reimbursable construction     project. Silvertip was the only bidder for these services. The contract will be paid    with existing bond issue funds.

 

 B.   Consider awarding a contract to Silvertip Inc., Plumbing Contractor, to provide       additional construction services for the Lycoming Valley Middle School Project at     a cost of $54,700 which includes $700 for Alternate P-1. Silvertip was the only       bidder for these services. The contract will be paid with existing bond issue funds.

 

 C.   Consider awarding a contract to B.K. Controls, Inc., Electrical Contractor, to       provide additional construction services for the Lycoming Valley Middle School       Project at a cost of $113,400. B.K. Controls was the low bidder of four bids       received. The contract will be paid with existing bond issue funds.

 

 D.   Consider awarding a contract to the Robert Feaster Corporation, General         Contractor, to provide additional construction services for the Lycoming Valley       Middle School Project at a cost of $25,000. Robert Feaster was the low bid of two     bids received. The contract will be paid with existing bond issue funds.

 

 E.   Consider rejecting the Alternate G-1 bid supplied by the Robert Feaster        Corporation in the amount of $40,775.

 

 F.   Consider approving the submission of PLANCON Part F Attachment C -         resolution concerning the construction contracts listed above.

 

 G.   Consider approving the submission of PLANCON Part I for the Lycoming Valley    Middle School Project.

 

7.   CURRICULUM REPORT CONT’D:

 

7.9   Consider approving a letter of agreement with the West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission which enables them to provide drug and alcohol abuse assessments to students referred for that purpose by our student assistant teams. West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission will also provide appropriately trained personnel to serve as liaisons to the student assistance teams regarding substance abuse issues AND also approving a Qualified Service Organization Agreement with West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission, which recognizes that the Commission will maintain the confidentiality of any information gained related to the above noted letter of agreement.

 

 

7.  CURRICULUM REPORT CONT’D:

 

7.10   Consider approving sports schedules for Winter 2006-07.

 

7.11   Consider approving paying one-tenth of the honorarium for Gary Fields, the consultant from Research for Better Schools who presented at the secondary county wide inservice hosted at Williamsport Area High School on October 9, 2006. Each of the ten participating school districts is expected to pay an equal portion of the cost. WASD’s portion of the fee is $342.45 and is budgeted under the assistant superintendent's professional development account #10-2271-329-000-00-000-000-017-0000.

 

8.   PERSONNEL REPORT CONT’D:

 

8.1  RESIGNATIONS

 

Consider accepting the following resignations, effective on the dates and for the purposes indicated:

 

E.   Lisa L. Mendler, part-time Administrative Support I in the Vocational Education Dept. at the high school, for other employment, effective November 3, 2006.

 

8.2  LEAVES OF ABSENCE

 

  Consider approving the following leaves of absence:

   

 J.   Karen E. Anstadt, general food service worker at Stevens Elementary School, unpaid leave for personal reasons, effective for one day only November 1, 2006.

 

8.3*  ELECTION OF STAFF  

 

  Consider the election of the following staff, for the purpose and on the date indicated:  

 

 I.   The following substitute food service workers, at the salary rate of $6.25 per hour, for the actual number of hours worked, effective date as indicated:

8.3*   ELECTION OF STAFF CONT’D:

 

 L.   The following substitute administrative support/aides, subject to assignment by the Superintendent of Schools, at the hourly rates as established by Board policy, and only for the actual number of hours assigned and worked:

8.4*  POSITION CHANGES

 

  Consider approving the following position changes:

 C.   Michele L. Brobst, 59 Pumpkin Center Rd., Montgomery, from Dean of Students to     Assistant Principal at Cochran Elementary School, effective November 1, 2006, at a     salary of $73,587, prorated, and benefits as provided in the Act 93 Meet and Discuss    Compensation Plan, effective July 1,   2006. Ms. Brobst has received principal       certification from the Department of Education.

 

 D.   John J. Killian, 357 E. Mountain Ave., S. Williamsport, from Dean of Students to       Assistant Principal at Stevens Elementary School, effective November 1, 2006, at a     salary of $73,587, prorated, and benefits as provided in the Act 93 Meet and Discuss    Compensation Plan, effective July 1,   2006. Mr. Killian has received principal       certification from the Department of Education.

 

8.5  CONTRACTED SERVICES

 

B.   Consider approving a contract with CRS, Inc., 600 Arch St., Williamsport, to provide the services of the SubFinder ASP System to the Williamsport Area School District, at a minimum monthly fee of $940 (based on 600 employees requiring substitute @$1.35 per month for 10 months and 200 employees not requiring substitutes @ $0.65 per month), effective December 1, 2006, through November 30, 2007.

 

 

 

 

10.   STUDENT/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES CONT’D:

 

10.1*   Consider approving the following student trips:

 

N.   Seventy (70) fourth grade students from Cochran Elementary School, accompanied by their teachers, to travel to the Thomas Taber Museum during November 2006. The students will have an opportunity to learn about the history of Lycoming County and to view related artifacts. Students eligible to participate will not have been suspended or assigned to Saturday School within 30 days prior to the trip.

 

  The students will walk to and from the school. The District has a membership to the Historical Society. Therefore, there will be no admission charge.

 

O.   Sixty-five (65) Ninth Grade Academy students from the Williamsport High School, accompanied by six teachers, to travel to the Pennsylvania State University’s College of Earth and Mineral Science during November 2006. The students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities.

 

  District transportation is requested. All costs will be paid through Project 720 funds.

 

P.   Twenty-eight (28) Williamsport Area High School students accompanied by staff members at 7:1 ratio, to travel to Washington, DC, during November 2006. The students will have the opportunity to visit the Holocaust Museum. Students eligible to participate will not have been suspended from school more than five days; will have no bus disciplinary record; will be passing all major courses; and are not, in the judgment of their house principal, experiencing attendance difficulties.

 

  Transportation and admission will be provided by Lycoming County “ Brotherhood County” USA, Inc. Four substitutes will be required for the day at a cost not to exceed $440.00.
