7. CURRICULUM REPORT
7.14
Consider approving Theodore Piwowar, Director of Career and Technical
Education, to submit an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Education
for a Project 720 Grant in the maximum amount available to the Williamsport
Area School District, tentatively set at $100,000. The purpose of this funding
is to create high school environments that are student-centered,
results-focused, data-informed, and personalized in a way that is seamlessly
supported by systems, resources, technology and shared leadership.
8. PERSONNEL REPORT
8.1 RESIGNATIONS
Consider accepting the following resignations, effective on the dates and for
the purposes indicated:
E.
Louis H. Gatti, regular part-time school bus driver for the District, for
personal reasons, effective June 9, 2006.
8.2 LEAVES OF ABSENCE
Consider approving the following leaves of absence:
F.
Vicki L. Bower, full-time instructional support aide at the high school, for an
unpaid medical leave, effective August 24, 2006, through January 19, 2007.
Mrs. Bower is not eligible for leave under the Family Medical Leave Act at this
time.
8.3* ELECTION OF STAFF
Consider the election of the following staff, for the purpose and on the date
indicated:

The following substitute school bus drivers (non-bargaining unit personnel),
with a base wage rate of $11.00 per hour, effective August 29, 2006:

John Edward Martin, 226 E. Central Ave., S. Williamsport, as part-time security
at the high school, third shift, weekend and holidays or as needed, up to 8
hours per day, with a base wage rate of $10.94 per hour, effective August 1,
2006 (replacing Joe Donnelly, resigned).
H.
John David Rife, 508 White Deer Pike, White Deer, as part-time security at the
high school, first shift, weekend and holidays or as needed, up to 8 hours per
day, with a base wage rate of $10.94 per hour, effective August 1, 2006
(replacing David Kriner, retired).
I.
Thomas Charles Ross, 726 Pearl St., Williamsport, as part-time security at the
high school, second shift, weekend and holidays or as needed, up to 8 hours per
day, with a base wage rate of $10.94 per hour, effective August 1, 2006
(replacing John Westbrook, retired).
J.
Michael H. Habalar, 545 Waterdale Rd., Williamsport, as a professional
employee, effective with the 2006-2007 school term (scheduled date is August
24, 2006), to teach Social Studies at the high school, at a salary rate of Step
1, masters, $41,750. Mr. Habalar holds a bachelors degree from
Slippery Rock University and a masters degree from Penn State University
and is certified in Social Studies (replacing Jennifer Bryant, resigned). Mr.
Habalar will also be scheduled to participate in Induction Program activities
before the start of the 2006-2007 school term.
K.
Sarah Beth Mac Intyre, 1355 Sycamore Rd., Montoursville, as a half-time
temporary professional employee, effective with the 2006-2007 school term
(scheduled date is August 24, 2006), as a Title I Reading Specialist at Jackson
Elementary School, at a salary rate of Step 1, bachelors, $38,750,
prorated to ½ time, pending receipt of all necessary paperwork. Ms. Mac
Intyre holds a bachelors degree from Mansfield University and is
certified in Reading Specialist and Elementary K-6 (replacing Diane Konieczny,
transferred; position revised to half-time due to changes in available Federal
Funding). Ms. Mac Intyre will also be scheduled to participate in Induction
Program activities before the start of the 2006-2007 school term.
8.6 CONTRACTED SERVICES
C.
Janet B. Lovell, 2180 Pine Run Rd., Linden, to provide consulting services to
the Student Services Department at the rate of $15.14 per hour, effective
August 2, 2006, through August 31, 2006. (Contract for Mrs. Lovells
services will be prepared and executed.)
8.7 OTHER
A.
Consider authorizing payment to Catherine C. Buck, 1627 Cemetery Hill Road,
Montgomery, to provide one-on-one instruction for an eligible special education
student at the rate of $26.22 per hour up to 5 hours per week during the
2006-07 school term. These services will be reviewed by the appropriate IEP
team (funded through ACCESS).
