rare Regional Gold Key for his photograph entitled "Silent Reflection." From among over 200,000 student submissions to the Scholastic Arts Award program, some 5,000 were judged locally and submitted to New York for display before a panel of nationally acclaimed judges. Of these finalists, only 700 submissions won Gold Key status in Manhattan; Jeremiah's photograph was one of these.

B.   Consider approving change orders #G-HL-33, G-HL-34, G-HL-35, G-HL-36 and

G-HL-37 to the contract with the Robert Feaster Company, General Contractor, increasing the contract by $13,215.00 and adjusting the contract total to $6,366,330.50.

 

C.   Consider approving change order H-LV-12 to the contract with R&J Ertel, HVAC Contractor, increasing the contract by $3,301.00 and adjusting the contract total to $2,000,779.23.

 

D.   Consider approving change orders E-HL-15 and E-LV-12 to the contract with Lecce Electric, Electrical Contractor, increasing the contract by $8,564.00 and adjusting the contract total to $1,798,519.00.

 

7.   CURRICULUM REPORT CONT’D:

 

7.13   Consider signing the "Letter of Intent" to purchase/renew the contract for Study Island to be used by the elementary schools in the EAP tutoring program (6/1/06--6/1/07). The cost for this is $5,913.60 and will be funded through the 2006--07 EAP funds.

 

    1. Consider approving the following additional 2006-07 Act 80 Professional Development Days   for Roosevelt Middle School: October 6, 2006; November 22, 2006; February 2, 2007;

March 5, 2007 and April 27, 2007.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

8.  PERSONNEL REPORT

 

8.1  RESIGNATIONS

 

Consider accepting the following resignations, effective on the dates and for the purposes indicated:

 

H.   Catherine E. Gibson, as teacher for the Elementary Summer School Program, for personal reasons, effective June 5, 2006. (Mrs. Gibson will continue as a 5 th grade teacher at Jackson Elementary School.)

 

I.   Kyle D. Hunter, full-time Mathematics teacher at the high school, for the purpose of retirement, effective July 30, 2006.

 

  RESOLVED: that the Board of School Directors of the Williamsport Area School District acknowledges with profound regret the retirement of Kyle D. Hunter from service in the Williamsport Area Schools and expresses its sincere appreciation for his 21 years of dedicated service to our school system as a teacher. It further expresses the hope that his years of retirement will be many and richly rewarding.

 

J.   Steven R. Wiser, full-time Social Studies teacher at the high school, for the purpose of retirement, effective June 12, 2006.

 

  RESOLVED: that the Board of School Directors of the Williamsport Area School District acknowledges with profound regret the retirement of Steven R. Wiser from service in the Williamsport Area Schools and expresses its sincere appreciation for his 32 years of dedicated service to our school system as a teacher. It further expresses the hope that his years of retirement will be many and richly rewarding.

 

K.   Aaron C. Naginey, long-term substitute Speech Therapist for the District, for personal reasons, effective June 9, 2006.

 

8.2   LEAVES OF ABSENCE - Consider approving the following leaves of absence:

 

 G.   Joy L. White, full-time elementary (4th grade) teacher at Sheridan Elementary School, for an unpaid medical leave, effective May 11, 2006, through June 2, 2006.

 

    Mrs. White began her unpaid leave of absence on May 11, 2006, which will be taken under the Family Medical Leave Act, which entitles the employee to health insurance for a maximum of 12 weeks, but is without pay or any other benefits.

 

 H.   Staci L. Godfrey, full-time Instructional Support Aide at Hepburn-Lycoming Elementary School, for an unpaid medical leave on an intermittent basis (as needed), effective May 25, 2006, through June 9, 2006, to care for a family member.

    Mrs. Godrey will attempt to schedule absences in advance (when possible). Mrs. Godrey will be entitled to health insurance for a maximum period of time equivalent to 12 weeks under the Family Medical Leave Act, but is without pay or any other benefits.

 

8.2   LEAVES OF ABSENCE CONT’D:

 

 I.   Stephanie N. Bradley, part-time instructional support aide at Lycoming Valley Middle School, for an unpaid medical leave, effective June 7, 2006, through June 9, 2006. Mrs. Bradley is not eligible for leave under the Family Medical Leave Act at this time.

 

 J.   Teresa M. Willets, general food service worker at the high school, unpaid leave for personal reasons, effective for one day only on June 6, 2006.

 

8.3*  ELECTION OF STAFF  

 

  Consider the election of the following staff, for the purpose and on the date indicated:

8.3*   ELECTION OF STAFF CONT’D:

 

 V.   The Williamsport Area School District extends a conditioned offer of employment to     Ryan C. Moon, 171 Rock Rd., Trout Run, as a temporary professional employee,       effective with the 2006-2007 school term (scheduled date is August 24, 2006), to       teach Mathematics at the high school, at a salary rate of Step 1, bachelor’ ;s, $38,750,     provided Mr. Moon obtains Pennsylvania Department of Education certification and     all appropriate documentation by July 21, 2006 (replacing Lisa Jacobs, resigned).      Mr. Moon will   also be scheduled to participate in Induction Program activities before    the start of the  2006-2007 school term.

 

8.6  OTHER

 

A.   Authorize payment to Spring M. Moore, 1133 Market St., Williamsport, English teacher at the high school, as the instructor of a high school English 11 Remediation course held after school hours during the second and third marking periods of 2005-2006 school year. Ms. Moore is to be paid $150 per student plus appropriate benefits for five (5) students who were enrolled in the class.

 

 B.   Authorize the Board President and Board Secretary to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Williamsport Education Association (WEA) waiving (one time only) provisions of Article 30 (Retirement Benefit) and for those bargaining unit members who submit a written irrevocable resignation (to be effective no later than August 1, 2006) to the Director of Human Resources. All other provisions of the agreement shall be applied as written.

 

10.   STUDENT/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES:

weather) and outdoor running area at Round Hills Elementary School, June 26 through June 30, 2006, from 7:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. to promote physical fitness and healthy choices for girls Family Life Services is requesting relief of the occupancy fees estimated at $125.00. Certificate of Insurance on file.

 

D.   Family Life Services/Girls on the Run to use the gymnasium (during inclement  

weather) and outdoor running area at Sheridan Elementary School, June 26 through

June 30, 2006, from 7:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. to promote physical fitness and healthy choices for girls Family Life Services is requesting relief of the occupancy fees estimated at $125.00. Certificate of Insurance on file.

11.  BIDS/CONTRACT CONT’D:

 

11.8   Consider authorizing a lease agreement with the Williamsport Scottish Rite to hold the 2008 WAHS prom at a cost of $500.00.

 

    1. Consider approving a contract with the Pennsylvania College of Technology for the period of

September 6, 2005 through June 30, 2006 for the Dual Enrollment Program at the Williamsport

Area High School. Item necessary to meet Dual Enrollment Grant requirements.

 

    1. Consider approving a contract with Lock Haven University for the period of September 6, 2005 through June 30, 2006 for the Dual Enrollment Program at the Williamsport Area High School. and also approve the Memorandum of Understanding effective April 24, 2006. Item necessary to meet Dual Enrollment Grant requirements.
