7.8   Consider approving the calendar for the Williamsport Area High School Summer School Program Projected Costs/Rates for 2006: Classes for the 6-week program begin on Monday, June 19, 2006 and end on Friday, July 28, 2006. Classes will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 12:15 p.m. There will be one vacation day on Tuesday, July 4, 2006.

 

7.9   Consider approving student rates for the Williamsport Area High School Summer School Program.

8.1  RESIGNATIONS

 

Consider accepting the following resignations, effective on the dates and for the purposes indicated:

 

E.   Matthew J. Berta, substitute instructional support aide for the District, for personal reasons, effective March 10, 2006.

 

8.2  LEAVES OF ABSENCE

 

  Consider approving the following leaves of absence:

 

 D.   Thelma J. Eckman, general food service worker at the high school, unpaid leave for personal reasons, effective for one day only on March 24, 2006.

 

 J.   Albert F. Hills, full-time custodian at the high school, for an unpaid medical leave, effective March 6, 2006, through May 28, 2006.

 

    Mr. Hills utilized all vacation, sick and/or personal days and began his unpaid leave of absence on March 6, 2006, which will be taken under the Family Medical Leave Act, which entitles the employee to health insurance for a maximum of 12 weeks, but is without pay or any other benefits.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

8.2  LEAVES OF ABSENCE CONT’D:

 

 K.   Michael R. Millward, full-time special education teacher at the high school, unpaid medical leave on an intermittent basis (as needed), effective March 14, 2006 (documentation on file).

   

    Mr. Millward will attempt to schedule absences in advance (when possible). Mr. Millward will be entitled to health insurance for a maximum period of time equivalent to 12 weeks under the Family Medical Leave Act, but is without pay or any other benefits.

 

 L.   Sandra L. Edler, general food service worker at Curtin Middle School, unpaid leave for personal reasons, effective March 30, 2006, through March 31, 2006.

 

 M.   Tammy L. Parsons, general food service worker at Roosevelt Middle School, unpaid leave for personal reasons, effective March 21, 2006, through

   March 31, 2006.

 

 N.   Darlene R. Wesneski, general food service worker at Round Hills Elementary School, unpaid leave for personal reasons, effective for one day only on

   June 5, 2006.

 

 O.   Lisa A. Wagner, full-time Elementary (1st Grade) teacher at Hepburn-Lycoming Elementary School, for an unpaid leave, effective for one-half day only on

   March 24, 2006.

8.3*  ELECTION OF STAFF  

 

  Consider the election of the following staff, for the purpose and on the date indicated:  

 

 L.   Tonya R. Anderson, 934 Elizabeth St., Williamsport, as a non-certificated substitute teacher with receipt of an emergency permit, subject to assignment by the Superintendent of Schools, at the salary and/or rates as established by Board policy, and only for the actual number of hours assigned and worked during the 2005-2006 school year.

 

8.4*   POSITION CHANGES - Consider approving the following position changes:

 

 A.   Michele L. Lusk, 97 East Fairview Street, Cogan Station, from a Satellite Cafeteria Manager (6 hours daily) at Woodward/AEP School, to a Satellite Cafeteria Manager (6½ hours daily) at Hepburn-Lycoming Elementary School, with a base wage rate of $12.64 per hour, effective for the 2006-2007 school year. Ms. Lusk will have a transition period of approximately two weeks during the 2005-2006 school year (replacing Betty Sholder, retiring on June 9, 2006).

 

 

10.   STUDENT/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES CONT’D:

 

10.1*   Consider approving the following student trips:

 

L.   Correction to Item 10.1.K. The item should have read seventy (70) jazz band members from Curtin, Lycoming Valley, and Roosevelt Middle Schools to travel to the Williamsport Area High School during April 2006 to attend a clinic and performance.

 

M.   Twenty (20) Williamsport Area High School students, accompanied by their teachers, to travel to Penn College during April 2006 to attend a Nanotrek Camp and to explore nanotechnology career options.

 

  District transportation is requested (10-1390-519-000-30-850-280-033-0000). Two substitutes will be required for the day.

 

10.3   Consider approving the following request for facility use:

 

 A.   Williamsport AYSO to use the cafetorium/stage at Roosevelt Middle School on     Thursday, April 20, 2006 and Friday, April 21, 2006 from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm     to pose for team pictures. Williamsport AYSO is requesting relief from the     occupancy fee estimated at $80.00. Certificate of Insurance on file.

 

 B.   Retroactive approval for Community Alliance for Progressive Positive Action       (CAPPA) to use the auditorium, gymnasium and three classrooms at Curtin Middle     School on Saturdays, beginning February 4, 2006 through June 3, 2006 from

    9:00 am to 3:00 pm to hold rehearsals for the CAPPA Showcase. CAPPA is       requesting relief of the occupancy fees estimated at $2,250.00, custodial fees to be    paid from the Sheridan Project Grant. Certificate of  Insurance waived since co-       sponsored by the District.

 

 C.   CAPPA to use the gymnasium/auditorium at Cochran Elementary School on       Saturday, April 8, 2006 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm to hold a rehearsals for the

    CAPPA Showcase. CAPPA is requesting relief of the occupancy fees estimated       at $40.00, custodial fees to be paid from the Sheridan Project Grant. Certificate of     Insurance waived since co-sponsored by the District.

 D.   CAPPA to use the auditorium/gymnasium at Cochran Elementary School on

    Saturdays, beginning April 15, 2006 through June 3, 2006 from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm     to hold rehearsals for the CAPPA Showcase. CAPPA is requesting relief of the       occupancy fees estimated at $320.00, custodial fees to be paid from the Sheridan       Project Grant. Certificate of Insurance waived since co-sponsored by the District,

    pending approval from building principal.
