5.1   BOARD PRESIDENT’S REPORT

 

 A.   The Pennsylvania Art Education Association and the Pennsylvania Department of   Education have teamed up with the Philadelphia Mural Project to create a permanent   student-based mural for the outside of 333 Market street in Harrisburg. Mr. Tom   Kelchner, Department Chair for Art, has been coordinating the education side this  summer.

 

  Mr. Kelchner is pleased to share that two of our schools and their art teachers will be   involved in this project. Sandy Young at Jackson and Bessie Lowry at Sheridan will   each work with one of their classes to create panels which will be integrated into this   massive mural which will be on display by the outside escalators at PDE.

 

 B.   Consider authorizing an additional kindergarten class for the 2005-2006 school year,

    location to be determined.

 

5.2   SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT CONT’D:

 

 C.   Consider approval of a plan to improve school safety at the Williamsport Alternative   School through the intermittent, preventive use of a hand-held metal detector. Prior   student notification of intermittent screening is intended to encourage students not to   bring items that can be construed to be a weapon to the building.

 

Mr. Wright and Mr. Rathjen are prepared to provide an overview of the proposal

 

5.4   Construction Projects Cont’d:

 

 F.   Consider approving change order G-LV-1 to the contract with the Robert Feaster       Corporation increasing the contract by $10,000 with a new contract total of

   $6,306,719.84.

 

6.  FINANCE REPORT CONT’D:

 

6.3   Consider adding the following depositories for the funds of the Williamsport Area School   District be authorized for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006:

 

   Citizens Bank

   Legacy Bank

   Sovereign Bank

   Susquehanna Bank

   Woodlands Bank

 

 

 

8.   CURRICULUM REPORT CONT’D:

 

8.5   Consider approving Metamorphosis Performance Company to present their Under Construction Program at each elementary school in September 2005. Approximate cost of each performance is $475 and is budgeted in the Elementary Curriculum budget and Site Based budgets.

 

9.3*   ELECTION OF STAFF CONT’D:  

 

  Consider the election of the following staff, for the purpose and on the date indicated:  

   

 K.   The following persons as non-certificated substitute teacher with receipt of an emergency permit, subject to assignment by the Superintendent of Schools, at the salary and/or rates as established by Board policy, and only for the actual number of hours assigned and worked during the 2005-2006 school year:

B.   Williamsport AYSO to use the cafetorium at Roosevelt Middle School on Thursday, August 18, 2005 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. to hold a coaches meeting. Williamsport AYSO is requesting relief from the occupancy fee estimated at $40.00. Certificate of Insurance to be received.

 

12.  BIDS/CONTRACTS CONT’D:

 

12.3   Consider approving a Data Release Agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of   Public Welfare to enable the District to complete and submit applications for services   through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Application of Social Services (COMPASS).
