8.   CURRICULUM REPORT CONT’D:

 

8.10   Consider approving a change to the Cochran Elementary School Calendar. Cancel the scheduled Act 80 inservice day on Friday March 11, 2005, and schedule a replacement Act 80 inservice day on Thursday March 24, 2005 to align the Cochran inservice with all elementary schools.

 F.   Lauren Vicars (WAHS student), 2147 Roosevelt St., Williamsport, as a participant in the Work-Based Learning (Cooperative Education) Program at Jackson Elementary School, at the rate of $5.15 per hour (plus appropriate benefits: Social Security, Worker’s Comp.) for up to 15 hours per week, effective February 2, 2005, through the remainder of the 2004-2005 school term (tentatively scheduled through June 10, 2005). Ms. Vicars will provide assistance in the school office and/or library. (Board approval for this program funded through the general fund on September 21, 2004.)

 

 G.   The following persons as teachers for the Title I Extended Day Program at Roosevelt Middle School for the 2004-2005 school year, effective September 28, 2004 through 91 days (maximum 45 minutes per day, up to 91 days). Teachers will be paid at the rate of $24.67 per hour plus appropriate benefits. All costs funded through Title I:

    Supplemental teaching positions will be paid at the rate of $24.67 per hour. All funds (including appropriate benefits) paid through Educational Assistance Grant Funds.

 

9.5   AUTHORIZE TO POST/ADVERTISE NEW POSITIONS

 

  Authorize the administration to post/advertise the following positions:

 

 A.   Authorize the administration to appoint supplemental teaching positions (After School - 4 days per week, from February 2005 through April 2005) funded through Title I School Improvement Funds for Roosevelt Middle School, pending fund approval from the Department of Education. All funds (including appropriate benefits) paid through Title I School Improvement Funds.

 

 B.   Authorize the administration to post for supplemental Summer School Teachers

    (up to 40 positions), coordinators (up to 4 positions), librarians (up to 3 positions), health room technicians (up to 2 positions) and administrative support (secretarial - up to 2 positions) to be funded through the Educational Assistance Program Grant and/or the Sheridan Program Grant. All costs (including appropriate benefits) will be funded through the grants. Summer School Grant Programs to run from July 11, 2005, through August 5, 2005.

 

 C.   Authorize the administration to negotiate a contract with the Williamsport Child Guidance, Inc., 630 Campbell St., Williamsport, to administer the Summer School programs funded through the Educational Assistance Program Grant and/or Sheridan Project Grant, from July 11, 2005, through August 5, 2005. All positions administered through this program will be paid at appropriate employee collective bargaining rates. The requirement to contract with a third party to administer the program is a mandate included in the Grant Programs. Terms of this Contract will be presented at a future date for Board approval.

 

11.   STUDENT/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES CONT’D:

 

11.1*   Consider approving the following student trips cont’d:

 

G.   Six (6) Roosevelt Middle School students, accompanied by their teacher, to travel to the Little League Complex in South Williamsport to participation in a MathCounts competition. Students must be in compliance with the school’ s field trip disciplinary requirements in order to participate.

 

The students will be transported by their teacher. A substitute will be required for the day.

 

 

11.2*   Consider approving the following request for facility use:

 

C.   Pennsylvania Governors School for the Arts (PGSA) to use the auditorium, band room and two classrooms at Roosevelt Middle School on Saturday, April 9, 2005, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to hold auditions. PGSA is requesting relief from the occupancy fee estimated to be $95.00. Certificate of Insurance waived.

 

D.   Old Lycoming Little League to use the gymnasium at Lycoming Valley Middle School on February 17 and 18, 2005 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. to hold tryouts. Old Lycoming Little League is requesting relief of the occupancy fee estimated at $80.00. Certificate of Insurance to be received.
