The Special Meeting of the Board of School Directors of the Williamsport Area School District of which all members were duly notified and of which due public notice was given as required by Act 84 of 1986, was held on Tuesday evening, April 29, 2003, beginning at 7:17 p.m. in the Board of Directors Room, District Service Center, 201 West Third Street, Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The President, David B. Stone, Jr., called the meeting to order with the following members:
PRESENT: Pamela J. Markle, Susan A. Mahaffey, Jay B. Shultz, David B. Stone, Jr.,
Dale L. Vollman, Lois T. Williams, Thomas A. Zimmerman.
ABSENT: Karen V. Harris and James E. Temple
President Stone announced that the meeting started late because the Board had an executive session for personnel reasons.
BUDGET DELIBERATIONS
Budget deliberations centered on the requests for additional personnel and athletics. The Board agreed to include the following items in the tentative budget:
from 4/7 to full-time at an estimated cost of $22,559.
C. Increase the work year of the music/gifted support position from 205 to 245 days at
an estimated cost of $4,512.
D. Add a wrestling mat, football goal posts and high school gymnasium banners to the athletic budget at an estimated cost of $15,400.
The Board also discussed a full-day kindergarten program and agreed that they would like to see a pilot program this coming school year.
ITEMS FROM BOARD MEMBERS
Mr. Vollman announced that the focus/visioning group meetings held by the Lycoming County Planning Committee were very productive. Mr. Zimmerman agreed but also indicated disappointment in the relatively small number of citizens who participated.
Mr. Zimmerman reported that the interviews for the Director of Student Services are scheduled for Thursday and he would not be able to participate because his teaching schedule conflicted with the last interview. He asked if any other board members would be able to participate. Mr. Stone and Mr. Vollman volunteered.
ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC None
President Stone announced that an executive session was to follow this evenings meeting to discuss terms and conditions of employment for one or more District employees and to receive legal advice from an attorney.
