The Special Meeting of the Board of School Directors of the Williamsport Area School District of which all members were duly notified and of which due public notice was given as required by Act 84 of 1986, was held on Tuesday evening, November 27, 2001, beginning at

7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of Charles Lose Elementary School, 1121 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

 

I.   Call to Order, Statement of Purpose: Mr. David B. Stone, Jr.

   

The President, David B. Stone, Jr., called the meeting to order with the following members:

 

PRESENT:   Karen V. Harris, Susan A. Mahaffey, Pamela J. Markle, David B. Stone, Jr.,

Dale L. Vollman, Lois T. Williams, Thomas A. Zimmerman.

 

  ABSENT:   Shirley L. Canada, James E. Temple.

   

II.   Pennsylvania Public School Code of 1949, as amended, Sections 780 and 524:

III.   Information Regarding Charles Lose Elementary School and Programs

 

    Dr. Patricia A. Lowery, Superintendent

IV.  Comments from the Public:

 

Please line up behind the microphone and take turns speaking into the microphone for up to five (5) minutes per person. Since this is a hearing, the Board desires to hear the public’s comments. The School Directors and administrators prefer not to respond simultaneously to questions raised from the floor because they would like to have time to consider, and perhaps to research an issue, prior to making a statement about it. The Board will receive written testimony following this hearing. It is requested that such written testimony be submitted prior to February 25, 2002.

IV.   Comments from the Public cont’d:

 

Four children who attend Lose also spoke to the Board.

 

The nine citizens and four children all spoke in favor of keeping Lose open.

 

V.  Other Business

 

Dr. Lowery thanked the administration and especially Paul Daniels for their efforts in preparing the documentation and presentation.

 

VI.  Adjournment

 

Motion made by Mrs. Harris, seconded by Mrs. Markle and carried the meeting adjourned at 8:09 p.m.
