The Special Meeting of the Board of School Directors of the Williamsport Area School District of which all members were duly notified and of which due public notice was given as required by Act 84 of 1986, was held on Tuesday evening, February 8, 2000, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Board of Directors’ Room, District Service Center, 201 West Third Street, Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

 

The President, David B. Stone, Jr., called the meeting to order with the following members:

 

PRESENT:   Shirley L. Canada, Karen V. Harris, Pamela J. Markle, Kelly R. Pedersen,

David B. Stone, Jr., Dale L. Vollman, Lois T. Williams, Thomas A. Zimmerman.

 

ABSENT:  James E. Temple.

  1. Calendar of Events

President Stone recognized Mr. Thomas Paternostro who spoke to the Board about a public forum for the Chidren’s Advocacy Initiative.

 

BOARD PRESIDENT’S REPORT

 

A.   This week is School Counseling Week, set aside to recognize the school counselors

who actively help students to strengthen their abilities, develop their interests and realize their full potential. They are dedicated professionals who assist parents to expand their knowledge about child development and to focus on ways to enhance the educational, personal and social growth of their children. School counselors realize that comprehensive developmental school counseling programs include the student, families, educators and community resources. We wish to show our appreciation and thanks to the school counseling staff who help make our students succeed!!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

DISCUSSION WITH BUDGET MANAGERS

 

The following budget managers reviewed their 2000-2001 budget requests with the School Directors:

Mrs. Pedersen excused herself from the meeting at 10:33 p.m.

 

8.   Motion made by Mrs. Markle, seconded by Mrs. Harris, to approve the following student field trips:

 

A.   Authorize five (5) Roosevelt Middle School students, accompanied by their teacher, to travel to the Little League Complex, South Williamsport, on Thursday,

February 10, 2000, to participate in the MathCounts competition. The only cost to the District will be for a substitute for one day. The students will be transported by their teacher.

 

  1. Authorize 35 members of the Williamsport Area High School’s Strolling Strings,

  accompanied by staff members, to travel to the Radisson Hotel on Friday,

  February 11, 2000, to perform for the West Branch Valley Association of Realtors.

  District transportation is requested (101-1100-3-26-160-23-519).
