General education students and teachers participate in an initial training program designed to help with understanding disabilities and how to foster positive relationships. Students and their peers participate in home room activities, as well as carefully chosen general education classes. School Sponsored Enterprise Position The Williamsport Area School District's Departments of Special Education and Career and Technology have partnered to create a new School Sponsored Enterprise Position which began at the beginning of the 2004-05 school year. The position is taught by Mr. Adam Allison, a special education teacher, who oversees district and community-based improvement projects. The purpose of the program is to offer technical training to special education students who may have difficulty with acquiring basic skills needed to participate in career and technical areas. Stay tuned for updates on projects completed by our students!! We look forward to their good works and the skills that they will develop and hone along the way. Pennsylvania Alternate Assessment Results (PASA) The results of the 2003-04 Pennsylvania Alternate System of Assessment (PASA) for students with moderate to severe disabilities are in. The WASD's Department of Special Education is pleased to announce that our students in the life skills, autistic support, and multiple disabilities classes scored at or above the state average on performance based assessments. Congratulations to our staff for doing an outstanding job with our students to have our students achieve at strong levels!! The Pennsylvania Alternate Assessment is geared for students who are unable to participate in the PSSA due to their severe disabilities. The test is videotaped and examines the teacher and student working together on hands-on, performance-based tasks that more closely monitor their functional curriculum.
