WASD’s Department of Special Education serves over 1,200 elementary, middle, and high school students with various exceptionalities and needs. The program follows the letter and spirit of federal and state mandates with regard to providing a continuum of services in the least restrictive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises speech, itinerant, and special education coordinators
  • Develops and manages District’s special education budget
  • Prepares and monitors state and federal reports and overall District compliance with regulations
  • Serves as a liaison to IU operated programs
  • Oversees and provides staff development

 
Elementary Supervisor - Mrs. Jo-Ann Gorski

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates new students into existing special education programs
  • Coordinates out-of-district and out of state student “move-in” students into existing special education programs.
  • Participates and provides input into regularly scheduled IST/child study team meetings
  • Ensures that special education programs parallel the general curriculum
