The Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD) honored Leslie Whitehill, Williamsport Area High School health educator and Williamsport Area School District health and physical education department coordinator, as the Health Teacher of the Year at the organizationšs awards luncheon Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center Lancaster, PA.
Ms. Whitehill has made numerous professional presentations and has a number of publications focusing on HIV education, role of parents in sexuality education, and healthy sexual decision-making. She has been a Health Education faculty member for the Pennsylvania Governoršs Institute, serves as Assistant Project Coordinator for the Health Education Assessment Project
(HEAP) for the Pennsylvania Department of Education and has an adjunct appointment at the Pennsylvania College of Technology.
She was awarded the 2006 Outstanding Health Educator by the American School Health Association. In addition to her professional service, Ms. Whitehill is active in her community by serving on numerous local boards and currently serves as Mayor of the Salladasburg, PA Borough.
Leslie Whitehill received her Bachelor of Science in 1979 from Penn State University and a Masteršs Degree in 1980 from Purdue University. Her professional experience includes appointments at Penn State University, James Madison University, and The Williamsport (PA) Hospital and Medical Center.
