Attention WASD families!  We need your help!  Share your heart, your home and your country with a young person from abroad.  The Program of Academic Exchange (PAX) is seeking six Williamsport Area School District families interested in hosting international high school students during the 2005/06 academic year.  As a host family, you have the opportunity to develop life-long friendships and a profound appreciation for one another’s culture and way of life.  All PAX students are between the ages of 15 and 18, speak English, have full insurance coverage, and their own spending money. Many students and families form life-long friendships and a profound. Our exchange students need meals, a place to sleep, to study, and a warm supportive environment.  Private rooms are not required.  We welcome applications from single parents, young couples and retirees.  Please contact Charles Haun, local PAX Community Coordinator, by phone at 570-398-7227 or e-mail at chaun@tiadaghton.com, or phone the PAX national office at (800) 555-6211.

Danko from Serbia/Montenegro and Rebecca from Spain, pictured above –  along with PAX students from over 48 different countries including Russia, Belarus, Brazil, India, Thailand, Kosovo, Germany, Venezuela, South Korea, and Kenya –  are eager to live like American teens for one school year: joining sports teams, studying for exams, and participating fully in American family life.

Local representative Charles Haun of Linden will meet with both the host families and the PAX students throughout the school year to assure that the experience is enjoyable and culturally enriching for the foreign student, the host families, the school district, and the community. PAX is a fully accredited non-profit educational foundation. In the ten years since its founding, PAX has gained an international reputation for the quality of foreign students it places and the support services it provides. It is one of 11 exchange programs selected by the U.S. Department of State to administer scholarship programs that bring students from the 15 countries that made up the former Soviet Union to the United States.
