Community Alliance for Progressive Positive ActionYouth Intervention and Development Project
PRESS RELEASE
May 11, 2005
Innovative. Diverse. Engaging. Motivating. These are just a few words to describe the changes in educational programming throughout the Williamsport School District. The Williamsport Area School District in collaboration with the CAPPA Youth Intervention and Development Project Inc. have created an opportunity for elementary, middle and high school students to develop their creative and individual talents while working along with local area performing arts professionals. Efforts will culminate with the student stage production of the WASD and CAPPA’s First Every Child Counts / Young Artists in Action Performing Artist Showcase scheduled for Sat. June 11, 2005
6:00 PM in the Williamsport High School auditorium. Free admission.
Thanks to the support of Lycoming Housing Finance Inc., Giant Foods Inc,, First Community Foundation of PA, Suscom, Loyalsock Township School District , J.B. Gibbons Construction and other local sponsors and partners over 150 students are working hard on week days after school and Saturdays preparing for the June 11th performance scheduled to take place at Williamsport Area High School. The showcase project creates an opportunity for community and schools to unite in a multicultural recognition of the performing arts.
As the Williamsport School District strives to increase academics for all students with the promise of “Every Child Counts”, the WASD realizes educational opportunities must exist for students both within the school day and after traditional school hours. CAPPA takes the commitment of “Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders Today” very seriously and has pledged to support the educational goals of individual students and the Williamsport and Loyalsock Area School districts.
All of the students involved in the Every Child Counts Young Artists in Action Performing Artists Showcase have committed themselves to remaining in good standing in their school or agree to work on improvement goals if necessary. This project requires a lot of hard work and dedication, but thanks to commitment and dedication from School District Personnel, CAPPA volunteers, parents and the wonderful group of middle and high school students involved have been doing an excellent job in preparation for this event.
Free admission.
