TWO WILLIAMSPORT AREA HIGH SCHOOL FCCLA MEMBERS ADVANCE TO NATIONAL COMPETITION
On March 9-11, 2005, seven Williamsport Area High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members attended the Pennsylvania State Leadership Conference in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Workshops presented included FCCLA National Programs, Leadership, Public Relations, and Public Speaking. The students also enjoyed a banquet, dance, and special activities.
Some FCCLA members competed in STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition.) Kellie Wyland and Amber Rhian received a silver medal for their National Programs in Action project. Larissa Walker and Joana Reidy received a gold medal for their Focus On Children project. Melissa Knott and Kelli-Anne Pidcoe received a gold medal and scored high enough to continue on to national competition in San Diego, California for their project highlighting the Williamsport FCCLA’s Chapter activities for the 2004-2005 school year.
Senior, Tara Gottschall, the Chapter Voting Delegate, also attended, and played a vital role in the election of next year’s FCCLA State Officers also attending was senior, Dane Schick, from Muncy Junior/Senior High School, who received a gold medal for his Interpersonal Communications project.
FCCLA is a dynamic and effective student organization that helps young people address important personal, family, work, and social issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. The organization currently involves over 2,200 members in Pennsylvania. FCCLA is unique in that its programs and projects are planned and completed entirely by its members.
