The Williamsport Area High School Music Department will present its fourteenth annual Holiday Celebration on Sunday, December 21, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. in the Williamsport Area High School Auditorium. Doors will open at 2:15 p.m. The program is presented as a musical gift to the community and will feature the talents of over 400 student musicians. The event will be filled with festive selections and, at a little over an hour in length, is excellent family entertainment.
The program will begin with the combined Symphony and Concert Orchestras performing movements one and two of “Winter” from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” and the seasonal favorite made famous by Mel Tourme, “The Christmas Song.” The Millionaire Strolling Strings will brighten the program with the Latin favorite “Feliz Navidad”.
Arrangements of “Deck the Halls” and “Sleigh Ride” will showcase the big band sound of Jazz Ensemble I. The Percussion Ensemble will offer “Christmas Presence” and seasonal favorites will be presented by the Brass Ensemble.
The Combined Choirs will perform the Manheim Steamroller arrangement of “Veni, Veni”, a spiritual rendition of “Goin’ to Bethlehem”, a joyous Yiddish arrangement of the traditional “Chanukah, Oy Chanukah” with Klezmer violin and accordion, and conclude with the jazz waltz “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”.
Choral chamber ensembles and their selections include “Fum, Fum, Fum” from the Millionaire Singers, “Deo Gracias” by Les Chanteuses as well as “The Boar’s Head Carol” and the “Coventry Carol” by GQ.
“A Fireside Christmas” by renowned composer and arranger Sammy Nestico will feature the talents of the Wind Ensemble. The program will conclude with a traditional “Holiday Sing-A-Long” featuring all of the afternoon’s performers and the audience.
The performance will be telecast live over the local cable network, SusCom Channel 2, and rebroadcast at 8 PM on December 23rd and 2 PM on December 24th.
