Congratulations, Jasmine Woods!
WAHS senior, Jasmine Woodson was named Semi-finalist in the 2004 National Achievement Scholarship Program. More than 1600 high school seniors were named Semi-finalists from more than 120,000 applicants in the 40th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program, and academic competition for Black American high school students. Jasmine is the daughter of Sheri Johnson, Gregory Johnson and Anthony Woodson.
As a semifinalist, Jasmine must fulfill a number of requirements to attain finalist standing. She must have a record of high academic performance throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by their school principal, earn SAT scores that confirm their earlier PSAT/NMSQT performance, and write a self-descriptive essay. Jasmine and a school official must also complete a scholarship application in which they provide information about the student's participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, and educational goals. Approximately 1300 Semifinalists are expected to advance to the Finalist level in the 2004 National Achievement Program.
Three types of Achievement Scholarship awards will be offered in 2004. Every
finalist will be considered for one of 450 National Achievement $2500
Scholarships that will be offered on a regional representation basis. About 125
corporate-sponsored Achievement Scholarship awards will be financed by
corporations, foundations, and professional associations for Finalists who meet
criteria set by the grantor organization. In addition, 200 college-sponsored
Achievement Scholarship awards are expected to be provided by colleges and
universities for Finalists who will attend the institutions financing their
awards.
NMSC will release the names of winners of National Achievement $2500
Scholarships and corporate-sponsored awards to news media in late March.
Recipients of college-sponsored scholarships will be announced in June.
