Former Jackson student, Lisa Sedlock has been selected the middle school level winner of the Great Teachers: Making a Difference Essay Contest sponsored by WPSX-TV, Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the Thomas Family of Dealership. Sponsors received over 1,000 essays for the contest from students in grades 3-12 and chose one winner and two honorable mentions from each category: elementary, middle, and secondary. To be among the winning entries is a great achievement. Seth Moser, fourth grade teacher at Jackson is the honored teacher in Lisa's essay.
Because of Lisa's essay and recognition of her former teacher, Jackson will receive a $250.00 prize to be used at their discretion, and Lisa will also be awarded $250.00. An awards celebration will be held the afternoon of April 18th, 2004 at Celebration Hall in State College.
In honor of Seth's recognition, a television documentary is currently underway and will air on WPSX-TV this spring. Her essay reflected her appreciation for Mr. Moser's belief in her and his continuous support and encouragement. "Because he never gave up on me," Lisa stated, "I learned to believe in myself."
