WAHS AP Scholars for 2003
We are pleased to announce that six Williamsport Area High School students have been honored by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on last spring’s college-level Advanced Placement Program Exams.
Five of those students have earned the distinction of AP Scholar, and one has earned the distinction of AP Scholar with Distinction.
Earning designation as AP Scholars are Brian Coulter, son of Mr. And Mrs. Richard Coulter; Megan Dingler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Dingler; Jeremy Hurwitz, son of Mrs. Janet Hurwitz and Reverend Kenneth Weiss, and Mr. Marvin Hurwitz; Cong Ma, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wancang Ma; and Meghan Mahoney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Mahoney. These students qualified for the AP Scholar designation by earning grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams on full-year courses, or the equivalent.
Granted AP Scholar with Distinction honors is David Giordano, son of Dr. and Mrs. Guy Giordano. Giordano earned this recognition by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams on full-year courses, or the equivalent.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. Almost 15% of the more than one million high school students in more than 14,000 secondary schools worldwide who took the AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.
Nationally, more than 1400 colleges and universities award a full-year’s credit (sophomore standing) to students presenting a sufficient number of qualifying grades. Thirty-four AP Exams are offered in a wide variety of areas, each consisting of multiple-choice and free-response questions.
