Hepburn-Lycoming students are gearing up to perform a school-wide musical assembly entitled, “Education Rocks”.  Third and fourth grade students have been practicing for two weeks for the upcoming American Education Week.  The focus for the assembly was chosen to meet science standards.  Creatively, music teacher Sharon Freed and fourth grade teacher Trisha Bower have incorporated “rock” unit themes into the “Education Rocks” assembly.  Students will be singing songs such as “Education Rocks”, Think, and Never Stop Learning, and will be reciting poetry.  Students will even be wearing “rock” costumes.

Round Hills students will participate in a “Hats Off to Reading” program on Friday.  During the day, students will learn have wear their favorite hats during the day. At  3:15pm, students will gather in the hallways and take their hats off to participate in a Read-In for 15 minutes.

Stevens Elementary students have invited parents into their child’s classroom on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon.  On Wednesday, will be given a “student appreciation day”, which will award them with a day free of homework.  Also on Wednesday, the chorus will sing over the loudspeaker at various times during the day.

Sheridan students can participate in a Family Read-In, inspired by the region’s great outdoors, and the theme is Penns Woods.  On November 19th, families will be wrapping up in blankets and sleeping bags to read and have adventures including:

  • Following the tracks of Pennsylvania animals.
  • Gathering the ingredients for trail mix.
  • Identifying the woodland animals that include many full-size life-like models, including a bear.

Jackson students will participate in a new event every day of the week.
November 18:  Students will begin the celebration by an introduction to the theme, “Making Public Schools Great for Every Child”.  During announcements, Kathy Eshelman, Jackson Principal, will read a poem around their theme; then, each day during announcements, a school poem will be read.
November 19:  Each class will participate in a writing prompt that Mrs. Eshelman will introduce.  The writing prompt will be “My school is great because…”  We are duplicating special paper for the students to use for their final draft.
November 20:  This day will be a day to thank the support staff!  Each class will be asked to make cards for a specific staff member because Wednesday is National Support Staff Day.
November 21:  Former educators will visit Jackson to read to the students.  Following the reading, a reception will take place in the library.
November 22:  Mrs. Eshelman will be presenting a giraffe lesson about a famous educator.
