The Williamsport Area High School Music Department will present its thirteenth annual Holiday Celebration on Sunday, December 15, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. in the Williamsport Area High School Auditorium. Doors open at 2:15 p.m. The program is presented as a musical gift to the community and will feature the talents of over 400 student musicians. The event will be filled with festive selections and, at a little over an hour in length, is excellent family entertainment.
The program will begin with the Marching Millionaires presenting “Jingle Bell Jam” and “God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen” followed by the Wind Ensemble’s renditions of “C’est Noël!” and “A Christmas Festival” conducted by Edward Richards. The Jazz Ensemble offers “The Christmas Waltz” under the direction of Dale Orris. Percussion Ensemble, led by Donald Fisher, will offer “Trepak” from ‘The Nutcracker Suite’ and the Brass Ensemble, directed by Todd Kendall, will present a medley of seasonal favorites.
The Combined Choirs will perform “This Little Babe” from ‘A Ceremony of Carols’, “Erev Shel Shoshanim”, “Hallelujah, Christ is Born”, “El Cielo Canta”, and “Winter Wonderland”. Choral chamber ensembles and their selections include: “Caroling, Caroling” from the Millionaire Singers; “Merrily Sing Noel” by Les Chanteuses; as well as “Sing Me to Heaven” by GQ. High School vocal groups perform under the direction of Kent Weaver, Marisa Hickey, Michelle Hinkal and Anna Shellenberger.
Two classical pieces, “Adagio and Allegro” from the ‘Christmas Symphony’ and “Frandole” from the ‘L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2’ will be offered by the Symphony and Concert Orchestras and the Millionaire Strolling Strings present “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” lead by Walter Straiton. The program concludes with a traditional “Holiday Sing-A-Long,” featuring all of the afternoon’s performers and the audience.
